<p>Bangladesh being an over-populated country needs to produce a huge amount of energy to meet its people’s demands. On the other hand, it is quiet impossible to provide the large population with adequate energy with the conventional way of producing energy. Only 62% of our people have the privilege of using electricity. So apart from finding cost effective ways to harness energy, it is required to use the produced energy efficiently. This paper aims to find a way to reduce the pressure on grid energy by empowering the street lights using solar panels. In this regard, it also focuses on having a smart charge controller circuit for ensuring battery longevity. Here PIC16F876A microcontroller has been used to sense different voltage levels and make decisions according to them. The CCP module of the microcontroller has been used for a variable duty cycle PWM signal to adjust the brightness of the LED street lights according to necessity. The intensity of the street light will be automatically adjusted and will go OFF in the morning. By the use of LED street lights the reduction of the consumption of energy has been ensured. Apart from this, the smart solar charge controller can also be used for the electrification of remote places using solar energy as it is cost effective and easy to implement.</p>
