<p>Studies have shown that garlic and its extracts possess antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activities. DADS, which is an principle compound of garlic oil is an established hypolipidemic substance and hence may alter the cellular as well as membrane lipid composition and content in microbes thus probably show the antimicrobial activity. DADS is effective against Staphylococcus aureus and its Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC=1mg/L) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC=2mg/L) have been established. In the present work we have studied the effect of sub-MIC (0.125mg/L) level of DADS on growth curve and time kill curve in Staphylococcus aureus in order to establish its mode of action. The experiments show a significant inhibition of S. aureus as well as a time related decrease in viable count indicating DADS at sub MIC levels may be useful in treatment of S. aureus infections.</p>
