This article is an epistemic attempt to correlate two lines of research -a quantitative and a qualitative one, in order to corroborate that the recyclables market exhibits great potential in the state of Bahia, Brazil. It can be analyzed from the perspective of the category ‘Used Territory’, developed by a Brazilian geographer called Milton Santos. Furthermore, aiming to reach this qualitative discussion, we used the model called Shift-Share coming from the Regional Economy, Esteban-Maquillas (1972) version. We applied ‘the employed person’ variable to calculate the components which generate growth for economic sectors and regions. Thus, it is possible to demonstrate the employability potential of the recycling sector in the state. We could also confirm, through Milton Santos’s theory, that this sector will be able to be part of the territorial planning in Bahia.
