Abstract

Abstracts -This study seeks to evaluate the impact of contributing pension scheme (CPS) on workers commitment, retention and attitude towards retirement in the Nigerian Civil Service. The study drew respondents from the federal and state civil service in Calabar Metropolis. Five hundred and forty eight participants were purposively selected from the University of Calabar, Cross River University of Technology and Governor’s Office Calabar. The study elucidated data from respondents using four point Likert scale questionnaire. Data obtained were analyzed using Pearson product moment correction (r). Findings revealed that contributive pension scheme significantly affects workers commitment to work, retention and attitude towards retirement. The study recommends among others that strict measures be put in place by government to ensure the effective monitoring and implementation of the provisions of the 2004 Pension Reform Act.
