Knowledge and Certificate Based System: A Critical Analysis of Nigeria’s Educational System

One of the factors that should have made Nigeria achieve better ratings in the Economic Index, Growth Index et cetera is the number of its educated population which is not comparable with any other African nation. However, little or nothing tangible has been achieved so far by the acclaimed largest black population in term of education. This signaled the need to look into the ailing educational system thus the analysis of the knowledge based and certificate based educational system. This paper attempts to analyse the nation’s educational system and how it has affected the functionality of education in the country.

Influence of Peer Group Relationship on the Academic Performance of Students in Secondary Schools (A Case Study of Selected Secondary Schools in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State)

This research study sought the influence of peer group relationship on the academic performance of the students in secondary schools. The study was limited to five secondary schools in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo state. Three research questions guided the study. The findings of the study revealed that the peer group influences learning and certain factors like the social economic status and parental factor as they determine membership in most groups. The study also found out that pupils are closer to their friends than to their teachers and parents concerning their academics and that parents monitor their children’s peer group association.The findings were discussed and recommendations were made.
