Roles of Adult Education Programmes in Poverty Alleviation in Okrika and Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Rivers State
This study examined the roles of adult education programmes in poverty alleviation in Okrika and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas of Rivers State. 3 research questions and 3 research objectives guided the study. 3 hypotheses were also tested at 0.05 significant level. The study adopted analytical survey design with a population of 5653 beneficiaries of Rivers State Government adult education programmes for Poverty Alleviation in the area of study, out of which 2,828 beneficiaries were proportionately sampled. The instrument used for data collection was a validated researcher-made questionnaire titled “Roles of Adult Education Programmes in Poverty Alleviation Questionnaireâ€. The instrument has a reliability index of 0.74. Data obtained were analysed with percentages, mean statistic and T-Test. Findings of the study revealed that adult education programmes designed for poverty alleviation in Okrika and Portharcourt Local Government Areas are, functional literacy, vocational skills and technical education. That these adult education programmes have promoted capacity building, improve productivity; and requisite vocational /occupational skills for self-reliance among community members.
Perceived Influence of Skills Acquisition Programmes on Socio-Economic Development of Women in Andoni Local Government Area, Rivers State
This study investigated the perceived influence of skills acquisition programmes on the socioeconomic development of women in Andoni Local Government Area, Rivers State. The study was guided by five research objectives, five research questions, and four null hypotheses which were tested at 0.05 significant levels. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population for this study comprised 742 trainees in 20 functional skills acquisition training programmes, out of, which 371 trainees in 20 functional skills acquisition training programmes were selected through a proportionate sampling technique. A validated questionnaire titled “Perceived Influence of skills acquisition programme on Socio- Economic Development of Women†with a reliability index of 0.83 was used for data collection. Mean and standard deviation was used to analyse data collected. The findings revealed that skills acquisition programmes had influenced their socio-economic life by providing them with life-changing skills for selfreliance and improved women social status.
Impact of Adult Education Programmes on Women Participation in Community Development in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State
This study investigated the impact of adult education programmes on women participation in community development in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State. The study was guided by three research objectives and three research questions. The study adopted analytical survey design. The population of this study comprised 766 women who participated in adult education programmes in the area of study, out of which 581 women were proportionately sampled. Instrument used for this study was a validated questionnaire titled “Impact of Adult Education Programmes on Women Participation in Community Development Questionnaire’, and it has a reliability index of 0.86 which was considered reliable for the study. Mean statistics and t-test were used for analysing the data. Findings of the study revealed that basic literacy education progrmme has empowered women with requisite knowledge to participate in decision making; functional literacy programme has enhanced women economic life; and skill acquisition programmes has improved the economic status of women, all these programmes have improve women capability to participate in community development.
