Professor (Dr) Intakhab Alam Khan, an internationally acclaimed educational researcher, educationist, trainer and author is Full professor (Education/Pedagogy) at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah-Saudi Arabia. He is also a visiting professor at samarkand state university named after Sharof Rashidov, Samarkand, Uzbekistan He has served faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia (a central university) New Delhi, India and Jazan university, KSA. He has almost 29 years of experience in teaching, training, research and publications at various universities. An author of a 18 academic, reference and research books, and around 95 papers in different international online and print journals, Prof Khan has taught foundations of education, educational planning and administration. Besides teaching methodology papers Prof Khan has also taught applied linguistics, medical, health, business and professional English in India and Saudi Arabia. He has developed curriculum/syllabus of Educational management, communication skills, leadership techniques, Specific English for Fine Arts, Pharmacy, medical receptionists, nurses, laboratory technicians, medical doctors (non-English speaking) and so on. Dr Khan has developed an online course for teaching of special need learners, currently taught at the online international Islamic university, Gambia. Prof Khan has also authored a book on Peace, philosophy and Education which has been recommended as a reference in many universities. Others books and teaching materials have been referenced at many universities. His presentations at international conferences at Brighton (UK), Hong Kong (China), North Cyprus (Turkey), Brussels (Belgium), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Delhi (India) have already been published in refereed/ISSN/Scopus indexed proceedings. He has also attended a two week intensive ‘train the trainer’ programme at Greenwich community college, London, UK. Dr Khan is honorary chief editor/associate editor/asst. editor of more than 45 online educational journals published worldwide. He has already completed 9 King Abdulaziz University- sponsored/funded projects of books/research papers. Dr Intakhab A. Khan has bagged many awards and recognition. Dr Khan’s researches and works have been read by 5, 90, 000 researchers worldwide according to researchgate database, and cited by more than 2000 international researchers according to google scholar details. Challenges of Teaching/Learning English and Management
Teaching of English as a Second/Foreign language is always a challenging task. When it comes to the places where English serves a very limited purpose, it becomes more crucial and painstaking to teach and learn. Teaching of English in the Gulf region in general and Saudi Arabia in particular catches attention of many researchers and scholars especially when the issue is particularly related to the classroom situations. The study especially focuses on the case of Jeddah Community College (JCC).Teaching of English at Jeddah Community college serves two purposes: first, it strengthens the foundation of English and later lays the basis for Specific English which will be used in the years of the students' specialties. English in the Kingdom is taught at school levels also, but it does not enjoy as important place in the curriculum as in most developing countries. Despite good planning, curriculum, textbooks, qualified teachers and effective administration, the teaching-learning process sometimes seems to be futile when the actual skill development is not up to the mark. However, there could have been greater change had a systematic analysis been made in the past by exploring the factors responsible for such a low level performance. Both the teachers and learners face challenges due to many reasons. The teachers face challenges due to the following: their qualification, training as an EFL teacher, experience as a bilingual teacher( in Arabic context),perception of Arab culture, psychology of the learners, language policy, status of English, methods and strategies, assessment etc. The learners face challenges mainly due to the following: the difference between the past and present style, technique of teaching, workload, more focus on EFL, and focused teaching, stricter evaluation system, hard work, lack of proper motivation and attitude etc. Management of such pedagogic challenges is inevitable.
