Equipments Maintainability Using Simulation

Article January 1, 1970

The challenges of maintenance of engineering equipments and infrastructures are presently attracting researchers’ interest. This paper investigates the maintainability of imported “Tokunbo” gear drives in power transmission. In this study, maintainability requirements were quantitatively specified, measured and demonstrated. A combination of Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Monte Carlo simulation technique were used in this study to determine maintainability of gear drives in power transmission. It was established from the study that gear drives of the same types and condition but from different manufacturing sources have different maintainability. This work provides a useful guide to designers and maintenance engineers in enhancing the maintainability of engineering equipments and systems. This will in no doubt ensure smooth production operations while in service.
