Influence of Ageratum conyzoides Leaf Extract on the Growth Performance and Meat Physical Characteristics of Poultry Birds

In this study one hundred and five (105) day old each of Cobb broilers and cockerel chicks in two separate studies were allocated to five treatments, 3 replicate per treatment and seven (7) birds per replicate in a complete randomize design. 1mls, 2mls, 3mls, and 4mls of the extract formulation of Ageratum conyzoides was administered per a liter of drinking water to treatment R1, R2, R3, and R4 and 1g/liter antibiotics for the control treatment respectively for three days in a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) for five weeks

Retscreen Analysis of Solar Energy Project in Lafiagi, Kwara State, Nigeria

This paper examines studies to evaluate the economic viability of off-grid photovoltaic PV renewable energy technologies for rural applications in Lafiagi, Kwara State, Nigeria, to meet the government set target. It utilizes the lifecycle cost to estimate a 25 years life-time of an off-grid electrification project and compare with the cost of paying for grid-electrification within the same period. The result shows that such a project is economically viable. The project yield a strong positive pre-tax IRR on equity and a positive pre-tax IRR on assets. A simple payback can only be guaranteed in the project life span. Meanwhile, an equity payback can be completed within 12 years of the project life cycle.

Variation Characteristics of Photosynthetically Active Radition (Par) Over Ilorin in the Tropics

The annual variation of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) measured over five (5) years period (2005- 2010) at Ilorin (80 32’N, 40 34’E) was studied. The average daily and weekly PAR were obtained and plotted. The behavior of average daily PAR is similar to that obtained for the weekly average. There is a daily and weekly fluctuation in PAR throughout the year. The highest value of PAR is 33.96MJ/m2/day which occurred during the Harmattan period and minimum during the rain period with a value of 22.816MJ/m2/day. The average PAR for the Harmattan and Rain period is found to be 37.585 and 29.125MJ/m2/day respectively, while the average annual PAR is 30.050MJ/m2/day. When PAR is plotted against days of the year, the plot is described by a logarithm fit as y= -1.39ln(x) + 39.91 with a weak correlation R2 = 0.387. Also, when PAR is plotted against weeks of the year, the plot is best described by a logarithm fit as y= -1.56ln(x) + 34.74 with correlation R2 = 0.524.
