Mapping the Spatial Distribution of Health Care Facilities of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Kaduna North and South Local Governments, Kaduna State, Nigeria
This research focused on the identification and mapping of the spatial distribution of health care facilities of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) projects in Kaduna North and South Local Governments, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The research utilized the technology of Geographic Information Systems to add value to information for public health facilities mapping, planning and decision making. In this research work, the primary data was the geographical data of the MDGs health care facilities sourced through GPS from the field. The secondary data was the topological map of Kaduna North and South Local Governments, sourced from the archive of the GIS Laboratory, Department of Geography, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The data were analyzed using Ilwis 3.2a GIS Software. The analyzed data was presented using tables and maps. The study reveals that most of the Health Care Facilities were not evenly distributed in the study area, thereby, depriving the other sections easy access to these Health Care Facilities. It was also discovered that there was the problem of malfunctioning of some of the Health Care Facilities, most especially the boreholes. This made some areas to be over served while others were under served.
Land Information System LIS as an Effective and Efficient Residential Layout Management Strategy
Land Information System (LIS) can provide us a better and more efficient system for land management. This was used to develop an efficient system for the management of Tsaunin Kura residential layout in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study used topographical maps of Kaduna with sheet numbers 111 and 112 obtained from Kaduna state ministry of Land survey and town planning. The maps were scanned and geo-referenced to UTM-32 projection in a GIS environment and using the four procedures of reality, conceptual design, logical design and physical design. Using Arc GIS 9.2, the study was able to achieve the efficient and effective management of the land of the study area with the ability to identify the layout parcels, map it then generate data to provide a database that will enhance data collection, storage, manipulation, retrieval and dissemin- ation of information at precise and short time and eventually been able to query the database.
Health Care Facilities Mapping And Database Creation Using GIS In Chikun Local Government, Kaduna State, Nigeria
The study investigated the spatial distribution of health care centres in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state, Nigeria with a view to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technique in health care management planning. The study used the administrative map of the study area collected from the local government as the base map. Information on the number and addresses of the health care centres in the study area were collected from the local government while the coordinates of the health care centres were obtained in the field using Global Positioning System (GPS). These data were incorporated into GIS environment and analysed using Arc Map 9.2 software. The study reveals that there were 41 health care centres in the study area with 23 (56.1%) been private health care centres and 18 (43.9%) been public health care centres. The study also reveals the pattern of distribution of the heath care centres within the study area. The study also used World Health Organisation criteria for the location of health care centres in developing countries to propose 9 new sites for the location of new health care centres to adequately cover the health needs of the people of the study area.
