Unique Buddha, Unique Christ
This short essay has three sections: One, motherly no-do in Ecclesiastes supports us. Two, Christ self-empties to accept us all to give us his all. Three, Buddha also self-empties in Nirvana in Mercy. Buddha and Christ are unique, not equal not combinable, but each to be committed to with openness.
In Praise of Pain
As Buddha rightly announced, all sentient beings are engulfed in the vast ocean of pain worldwide. Strangely, however, no one in world history seems to have squarely stared at pain and deeply meditated on pain itself so important, so essential to living, and so internally ubiquitous. This essay attempts to probe pain, to harvest two surprises so incredible radically negative and radically positive. First, one, I find pain as mine yet not mine so unbearable that I have to wail it out, writ precise and clear on paper to stare at, as I hug my toothache or my heartache, showing my pain to my pals. Then, two, I am astounded to find my pain thus confessed on paper exercises prudence I have found in life, to spread in my life, and to share with my friends socially into cosmopolitanism heartfelt. Thus, three, after a brief comparison of joy with pain, pain is seen as worthy of being praised as an unbearable dynamo of cosmic concord in human greatness.
Praise, Flattery: Common Cosmopolitan
Surprisingly, things common can have cosmopolitan import, such the praise-flattery pair in a common commercial deal and beyond. Flattery is for us, praise is to others, and both appreciate to move the world. It is a common oiling of our business deal all over the globe, in “sale†in “free†in every store, to promote our win-win deal, as buyers satisfy their need to profit sellers. Doctors also do healthcare in “bedside manners,†and as scholars do so to inter-enrich. As flattery praises much, so praise prizes a person; as babies cannot be spoiled, so no one can be praised too much. Thus “flattery gets anyone anywhere,†even by “I know you’d never accept flattery!†Such joy goes around coming around; we are all in smile, cosmopolitan.
