Abstract

Tourism drives economic growth, especially in areas with rich cultural and natural resources. North Eastern India, known for its landscapes, ecosystems, and tribal cultures, is ideal for eco-tourism and adventure tourism. Tamil Nadu attracts millions with its historical sites, architecture, and cultural heritage but faces challenges of over-tourism and environmental degradation. This study analyzes tourist inflows in North Eastern states and Tamil Nadu state from 2010 to 2023, using data from the Ministry of Tourism. This study compares the tourist inflows of both regions from 2016 to 2023, considering tourist arrivals, economic impacts, and growth trends, including COVID-19’s effects. Findings emphasize the need for better infrastructure, marketing, and sustainable tourism practices. Both regions should promote unique cultural experiences, digital marketing, and sustainability initiatives, and invest in tourism education and technology to achieve sustainable economic development.
