Abstract

Digital innovations are influencing all sectors of industries and businesses globally in a productive manner. Mining industry is also in need of implementing the newest forms of technologies in all forms of operations. Many forward nations have done research and innovations whose prototypes are seen in various processes of the mining industry. Large operations are also not remaining untouched by this new culture of intelligent machines. Mining industry majorly comprises of five elements in its working namely exploration, excavation, loading, transportation, and processing. All operations are highly complex in each of their stages and consist of a high order of uncertainty in it. This uncertainty brings chaos and haphazard in the industry among the workforce, the business and its economics whenever it occur. The use of technology can help reduce these uncertainties and it is when digitalization comes into the picture. This article discusses areas in the mining industry where digital tools such as robotics, drones, automation, manless machines, and high intelligence monitoring and decision-making equipment coming from all over the world are slowly making their utility to improve the efficiency and productivity of operations and simultaneously reducing the risks and increasing the safety of the mines and are also proving tremendously helpful in planning for sustainable mining.
