Abstract

Today, People are now living longer around the world as many people can hope to live into their sixties and more. Interestingly, by 2050, the world’s population between 60 years and above is expected to total 2 billion, up from 900 million of what it was in 2015. Healthy aging is the way towards creating and keeping up the functional ability that gives sound health as one age. Functionality entails having the capabilities that enable every individual to do what they enjoy doing, and that which provides them joy and pleasure and have reason to value in good health, this incorporates an individual’s capacity to: meet their fundamental needs; to learn, grow and to make decisions, to be mobile, to be social, and most importantly, to add to the society. Importantly, in the realization of this, Nutrition is very paramount. Hence, the need for a review of the nutritional requirements that will aid healthy and graceful aging. This review brings together some of the crucial areas of food and nutrition affecting an individual’s health as one age. Therefore, this review will help health practitioners, educators and caregivers to provide sound advice and support to people, in the hope of having healthy and graceful aging.
