The Complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II)), Zn(II), Cd(II), Sn(II), Co(II), Sb(III) and Fe(III) with Methyl 3-[(E,E)-3-phenylprop-2-enylidene]dithiocarbazate have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, FT-IR, UV-Visible spectroscopy. The Schiff bases in every case behaved as bidentate, uninegative ligands. The complexes of Cu(II), Co(II) and Fe(III) are paramagnetic while all other complexes are diamagnetic. The complexes [Cu(C 11 H 11 N 2 S 2 ) 2 ] and [Ni(C 11 H 11 N 2 S 2 ) 2 ] had, square planar structures with two ligands satisfying the four steriochemical sites, where the complexes [Zn(C 11 H 11 N 2 S 2 ) 2 ] and [Cd(C 11 H 11 N 2 S 2 ) 2 ] were tetrahedral and the complexes [Sn(C 11 H 11 N 2 S 2 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ], [Co(C 11 H 11 N 2 S 2 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ], [Sb(C 11 H 11 N 2 S 2 ) 2 (NO 3 )(H 2 O)] and [Fe(C 11 H 11 N 2 S 2 ) 2 (NO 3 ) (H 2 O)] were octahedral in geometry. The metal complexes have been screened for their antibacterial activity.
