TVET for Job Creation: Needs, Problems and Opportunities Provided by National Directorate of Employment Skills Acquisition Programmes in Adamawa State of Nigeria
The purpose of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is to equip its recipient with technical skills needed for socio-economic and National development; the major challenges faced by youth in Nigeria is issue of unemployment, the high rate of unemployment prompts the Federal Government to establish so many intervention agencies, such as National Directorate of Employment (NDE). The NDE has the mandate of designing and implementing skills acquisition schemes to create job opportunities for teeming unemployed youth for self-reliance and National Development. This paper examined needs problems and opportunities provided by the vocational and technical skills acquisition programmes of NDE. Some of the identified problems are: Some training facilities are not available and the available ones are not adequate, it was also discovered that there is no awareness on the employment opportunities provided by TVET programmes of NDE. It was recommended among others that, All the NDE skills acquisition centres in the country should be adequately equipped with the needed training facilities. These facilities should be up-to-date in both quantity and quality for effective skills acquisition.
