Development and Validation of an Instrument to Enhance the Community Pharmacy Practitioner’s Knowledge towards Handling of High Risk/ Alert Medications

Objective: This study was aimed to prepare and validate an instrument as learning modules to boost community pharmacists’ knowledge on high risk medications (HRM), which will help in minimizing serious consequences arising due to mishandling of HRM. Methods: The instrument (videos) included chapters “introduction to HRM”, “look alike and sound alike (LASA) drugs” and “storage and labeling of HRM”. The instrument was ensured to be important, relevant, reactive and appropriate with the help of content and face validation which was then confirmed to be sensitive enough to distinguish knowledge levels of community pharmacists. The split-half reliability test by Kuder-Richardson formula 20 (KR 20) to obtain a homogenous reliability index value (rKR20 = (k/k-1)/(1-∑pq/σ2), ensured internal consistency of the instrument.

Background: Nurse practitioners play an important role in the chain of drug administration process. Adequate updated knowledge is prerequisite to deliver high quality health care services. Objectives: The study was aimed to develop and validate learning materials as an instrument to assess the knowledge of practising nurses towards High Risk Medications (HRM). Design: Prospective methodological program. Methods: The instrument on HRM was developed in the form of videos compatible in both PC and mobile format. The five chapters were emphasised and modules was ensured to be important, relevance, reactions, appropriate with the help of content and face validations. Further, confirmed to be sensitive enough to distinguish the knowledge levels of nurses. Then, followed by Kuder-Richardson formula 20 (K-R 20) using split-half reliability test to obtain the reliability index score (rKR20=(k/k-1)/(1-∑pq/σ2)) confirming the internal consistency of instruments.
