Development of Automatic Fish Feeder

Article September 3, 2016

An automatic fish feeder is a device that automatically feed the fish at a predetermined time. In a way, it is to control the fish feeding activity by using a fish feeder that combined the mechanical system and electrical system to form a device instead of manually feeding the fish by hand. Fish owners whom are away for a long time will have trouble knowing the situation of the pond or aquarium. Thus such device is very convenient. At the same time, the environment needs to be monitored. For this paper, I will monitor the environment in term of water temperature. First of all, the device will consist of a motor, stand, fish storage, PLC (Programmable Logic Circuit) and a GSM (Global System for Mobile). The device will feed the fish by dropping the feed from the storage through a hole. The size of the hole is controlled by a piece of block connected to a motor. A timer is used to control the number of feeding time at an interval of time. Plus, there is a feedback system that sense the level of feed left in storage. It will give warning to the user through SMS (Short Messaging Service) so the user will put new feed into the storage. With this, the user or the owner can be away from home with the device monitoring the aquarium condition.

Development of Controller for TE in Force Adjustable Damper

Article September 3, 2016

In this report, pole placement controller has been developed for hydraulic semi-active force adjustable damper: 2DOF quarter car model together with 5th order differential equations of damper model is considered. For the purpose of minimizing the car body vertical acceleration in order to improve the ride quality of the car the controller is developed. Four states were investigated. The car body displacement, car body velocity, wheel displacement and wheel velocity. Controllability and stability analysis were performed for the open-loop non-linear and linearized model which lead to the necessity of developing the controller as open-loop system appeared to be unstable. Various control theories on suspension system were investigated in this report, where the challenging part is to improve riding quality while maintaining good handling characteristics subject to different road profile. While developing the pole placement controller, the closed –loop poles were to be placed for both rebound and compression models of the system via MATLAB software. Through simulation, the developed controller proved to be achieving the aims of this project by minimizing the car body vertical acceleration consequently ride quality and comfort can be achieved.

Reduce Generators Noise with Better Performance of a Diesel Generator Set using Modified Absorption Silencer

Article May 9, 2016

Noise pollution is considered to be one of the major environment pollutants which affect human beings both physically and psychologically, as such, a noise-free environment is in great demand worldwide. Diesel engine generators are highly appreciated as power sources of electric equipment in factories, houses and business centers. Loud sounds from diesel generators are a major cause of noise pollution. This paper analyzes the noise source of diesel generators and mitigates this pollution by a modified absorbance silencer or muffler. For automotive engines, the principle source of noise is its intake, radiator, combustion, etc. In our society, all of the industries, the residential sector and business plants use generators. In this research, an absorbance silencer is modified for reduced noise of the generator set. It is constructed from a combination of baffle or perforated duct with sheet metal. This paper aims to study the sound characteristics of generator sets and also aims to reduce the sound by means of a well-modified muffle silencer. This paper focuses on design and tests silencers, particularly absorption silencers for engine exhausts.

A Mechanism Concept and Design of Reconfigurable Robot for Rescue Operation

Article May 9, 2016

There seem to be a lot of robots that have been built up until today. Basically, the creation of robot is supposed to be a helper for a human. Robot will replace human whenever the task is really difficult or dangerous to be done by human. Recently, the robots that have been created were made reconfigurable. The purpose is to make the robot to function in more type of surroundings rather than only one surrounding. With this ability, the robot can be more useful to human, and less number of robot is required to complete a certain task. This report emphasizes on the reconfigurable robot project, where in this report, the robot that has been created is using the walking motion. It presents a description with pictures and construction drawings of a fourleg reconfigurable robot.

Two Degree-Of-Freedom Camera Support System

Article April 20, 2016

A surveillance camera is used to observer and record the surroundings. There are many types of existing surveillance camera and each of them has their own specifications made to suit their respective purposes. For example, there are fixed, 1-degree-of- freedom (DOF) and2-DOF cameras. As for a moving camera, it is essential for it to be able to move freely so that it can capture the target object in awider range. The camera also should be able to be controlled wirelessly to give a better practicality to the user. Based on the specifications, this project is constructed to overcome these problems. A 2-DOF camera support system is to be created which can be controlled wirelessly via Bluetooth. The support will e made with two motors that can pan and tilt the camera. The user will need to download an application which has o screen control into their gadgets and this can be connected to the Arduino which controls the motors. The Arduino will process the command from the user and will move the right motor to execute the command. This project will help the user to control the surveillance camera from a distance wirelessly and have at least a 360° pan view and 90° tilt view.

ECG Arryhthmia Classifier

Article March 29, 2016

ECG (electrocardiograph) is test that measures the electrical activity of the heart. In an ECG test, the electrical impulses were made while the heart is beating and then it records any problems with the heart’s rhythm and the conduction of the heart beat through the heart which may be affected by underlying heart disease. In this project different signal processing techniques which are in Time-Frequency Domain and Auto-Correlation will be analyze and later, it will be classify to predict the patient’s heart condition whether it is healthy or not Apart of that, this project also used three types of method for automatic classifications which are Signal Analysis Technique, Pattern Recognition and Automatic Classification. MATLAB will be used as a computerized of ECG problems. In MATLAB, the data were analyzed and classified

New Energy Sources: Technological Status and Economic Potentialities

Article March 20, 2016

There are different types of energy sources: traditional, commercial, primary, renewable and the new energy sources. The new energy sources, from the perspective of this paper are those that have been innovated in the recent past and are still being innovated by the scientists and technologists to meet the energy challenges. The availability of the fossil fuels or the commercial sources: coal, oil and gas is finite. Human beings have already used a considerable portion of the reserves. The reserves are maturing. Besides, these sources cause environmental pollutions: particulates, acid rains, toxic pollutants, particularly greenhouse gases. The greenhouse gases are warming up the globe with consequent climatic changes. Global warming and climatic change is presently one of the major challenges before human race.

Effects of Energy on Economy, Health and Environment

Article March 20, 2016

Life is but a continuous process of energy conversion, transformation and use. The quantity of energy, forms and the sources used for conversion from one form to other are closely linked with economy and quality of life. But the energy conversion, transformation and use always produce effects on the surrounding environment. Some of these effects are detrimental to human health and the environment. Environmental pollution, particularly global warming is the talk of the day. Burning of fossil fuels produce smokes (COx, NOx, SOx and undesirable particulates) or flue gas, ash and other wastes. The wastes, flue gas, particulates and radiation produced in the energy system, cause health hazards. The SOx and the NOx are responsible for acid rain.
