Analysis of Computer Based Design in Architectural and Convectional Drafting Methods in Schools. The Case of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi

The paper compares the concepts of computer-aided design in architecture (CAAD) to manual drafting (MD) in Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi. These techniques are educational tools designed to train the student to become better in project design and creativity. A structurallybased questionnaire was developed to measure a series of active variables of CAAD and MD. The results revealed that ninety percent (90%) of the HND students indicated a strong preference for CAAD while most of the OND students were not aware of CAAD software. AutoCAD architecture is mostly taught at the Department and the students generally prefer to use Revit Software for their studio and design project. It is realized that the students are highly interested in learning and applying CAAD in the studio and project design; having discovered that CAAD proficiency through self-learning approach was estimated to be the highest out of the five considered techniques.

Impact Assessment of Non-Governmental Organization Development at Fugar, Nigeria

Over the years, it has been observed that Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) has increased their development profiles at local, national and international levels. NGOs have come to be recognized as important actors on the landscape of development on health, education, provision of water, construction of school buildings in Nigeria. The major aim of this study is to assess the impact of Non-Governmental Organization in community development in community and some of the objectives of the paper are to assess the socio-economic and infrastructural development impact Non-Governmental organization has made in rural communities and identifies the major areas Non-Governmental organization has really impacted on rural communities. Taking inventory of the impacts of NGOs in other countries, the ‘Tanzania Education Network has embarked on over 5 educational programs which have benefited close to 100,000 students and more than 850 teachers to date. These include: The Madrasa Pre-School program, the School Improvement Programmes, the International Academic Partnership, the Aga Khan Education Service Tanzania and the Coastal Rural Support Program. While in Nigeria a lot of projects like health, education and infrastructure were executed by NGOs in this regard, more is expected to be put in place by the growing number of NGOs in Nigeria, for the overall wellbeing of the society. However, the non-governmental organizations have some challenges which have limited their performances and also impeded their growth. Based on the findings, it has been recommended that Government should embark on aggressive development of the rural areas. Similarly, NGOs at the various levels should partner and work in collaboration with other private agencies. Physico-Chemical and Microbial Analysis of the Effects of Abattoirs Operation in Estako-West and Central, Edo-State, Nigeria

Abattoir wastewater has a complex composition and very harmful to the environment. There is always need for reduction in the impact of natural and most especially anthropogenic pollution to enhance water quality, food safety and sustainable development. Physico-chemical and microbial properties analysed using standard laboratory procedures were temperature, pH, conductivity, turbidity, total solid (TS), total dissolved solid (TDS), total suspended solid (TSS), dissolved oxygen (DO), acidity, alkalinity, total hardness, calcium and magnesium hardness, chloride, iron and nitrate. Temperature ranged from 28.04-29.12C, pH between was 7.67-8.01, Alkalinity is 0.45 mg/l, TS, BOD and TSS were 700 mm/l, 48 mm/l, 500 mm/l, DO is 2,100 ppm. Holistic outputs of the investigation revealed various water samples were contaminated with E. Coli and other enteric bacteria. The presence of coliform staphylococcus aures indicated the presence of microorganisms which are associated with water borne disease.
