Emergence of Multidrug Resistant Enterococcus Species Isolated from Clinical Samples in North India

Background: Enterococci species have become increasingly recognized as Multidrug resistant pathogens. This study aimed to determine the antimicrobial resistance profile of Enterococcus spp., Enterococcus faecalis, and Enterococcus faecium from various clinical specimens in Delhi, India. Methods: The study was co nducted at Dr Lal path Labs, Delhi from January 2020 to April 2022. Various clinical samples were collected and processed for bacterial isolation and susceptibility testing to antimicrobial agents. Samples were inoculated onto blood agar and CHROMagar media(only for urine isolates). The isolates were identified to genus and species level by cultural characteristics and MALDITOF-MS. Sensitivity testing to 11 antimicrobials was done using the VITEKXL broth microdilution method.

Prevalence of Carbapenem resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in North India

Objectives: The aim of this retrospective observational study was to investigate the burden and current antimicrobial susceptibility of Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumonia (CRKP) isolated from diverse samples. Methods: 3256 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates enrolled in this retrospective study, covering a9- month period from January 2021 to September 2021. It focused on analyses the prevalence and characterization of Carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae strain isolated from the diverse samples of Blood,Urine, Pus, Body fluids, and Sputum analyzed at the microbiology laboratory of the Dr. Lal Path Labs, Delhi, North India.

Comparison of CHROMagar Orientation versus CLED (cystine–lactose–electrolyte-deficient) Agar, VITEK-XL and MALDI-TOF in a Tertiary Laboratory Setting Processing Urine Culture Samples at Dr Lal Path Labs, Delhi

Aims: To comparatively assess the performance and evaluate the advantages of CHROMagar orientation vs. CLED agar for the detection and enumeration of the most common yeast, gram-positive and gram-negative urinary tract pathogens. Methods: Five hundred and eighty-seven fully characterized isolates (372Gram-negative bacteria, 106 Gram-positive bacteria, 13 Candida spp. and 96 mixed culture) were used to test for accuracy of organism identification. To assess isolation rates of common urine isolates and ability to detect mixed cultures, 2500urine samples were tested by parallel inoculation on the two best-performing media, CHROMagar orientation and CLED. Results: Of the 2550 urine specimens, 587(23.1%) yielded positive cultures, of which 491(83.6%) were pure cultures and 96(16.4%) were mixed cultures. CLED, CHROMagar orientation agar gave detection rates of 78.8% and 99.4% respectively.
