The Contribution of Village Savings and Loan Associations to Households Welfare in Rwanda
This study is an attempt to analyze the contribution of Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA), implemented in Ruhuha Sector of Bugesera District by Plan International (2012-2017) for poverty reduction. The general objective of this study is to assess the contribution of VSLAs to household welfare improvement in Bugesera District. A 80 respondents sample were proportionately and randomly selected from 300 former beneficiaries, while other 5 stakeholders’ category members responded to research questions all in a census. The questionnaire and an interview guide were used to collect primary data and were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social sciences (SPSS), descriptive and inferential statistics were adopted as research approach. Qualitative data was treated through sound content analysis. Although with local document gap, education reports, scholarly articles, books and existing relevant documents have provided secondary data. The findings shown that VSLA has been positively impacting household welfare in Ruhuha sector. The deep change depicted in tables, are observable from members of the VSLA such as improvement in diet (73%), home assets provision increased at 12%, purchasing power, financial education (100% members),medical insurance provision increased at 53%, newly built or rehabilitated house (87%), education expenses between 20,001-35,000Frw (increased at 24%), etc., which are among others household welfare indicators. It therefore proposed that VSLAs groups should be promoted in different areas of the country. It is recommended to encourage VSLA in rural village for financial stability and household welfare in and outside rural villages.
The Effect of Internal Audit on Budget Management of Local Government of Rwanda
This study aimed at investigating the effect of internal audit on budget management of local government of RwandatakingMusanze District as case study. The problem of failing to consolidate transactions and balances of NBAs in financial statements of local government has still persisted. Many local governments have not been examining efficiently the internal audit in budgeting process and execution and this has consequently led to mismanagement; lack of control and less budget execution from their activities or operations. Moreover to prove the general objective, the results of this study was presented in accordance with specific objectives stated by the researcher such as, to analyze the internal audit functions in local government of Rwanda; to assess budget process and execution in local government in Rwanda and to analyze the relationship between internal audit and budget process and execution in Rwanda. Descriptive research design was adopted for this study using both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection. The studyused a sample of 18 employees of Musanze District office selectedpurposivesampling techniques from a targeted population of 18 employees from department of finance of Musanze district Office. The study used primary data collected from semi-structured questionnaires. Based on the findings of this study, it was found that asset management; management control and staffing management are well used to enhance good budgeting process and execution in local government as it was indicated by 100% of respondents. The budget process and execution in local government is based on budget formulation; budget proposal and dialogue, budget monitoring, budget adjusting, budget control and budget reporting (100%). As significant level is at 0.01 (1%), the p value of 0.000(i.e. 0.0%) is less than 1%. This leads to confirm that there is significant relationship correlation between internal audit and budget process and execution in Musanze district office
Towards Affordable Low Cost Housing: Strategies of Low Cost Housing Development for the Low Income Population in Rwanda
The issue of affordable housing remains to be interested to the researchers all-over the world. Like elsewhere, in Rwanda the modern technology is being used in housing building towards more affordable house low cost. However, the constraints to obtain affordable houses are still experiencing on Rwanda market and can be regarded as financial, cultural, social, historical and institution framework. The high cost of capital, the high price to rent and to own affordable houses remains to be the main challenge for younger professionals and new tenants. On other side, high loan and mortgage interest rates hindering ownership of affordable houses for the middle and low income household sectors. As illustrated under section of discussions, consumer attitude/culture and level of income are the main factors towards affordable house. However, the Rwandan government may attract foreign investors such United Nations agencies, development banks, international NGOs, public and private partnership, World Bank and derivatives in their program to fund affordable housing in order to reduce the cost of capital and make it easier for all categories towards affordable housing.
Impact of Mobile Banking on Financial Performance of Unguka Microfinance Bank Ltd, Rwanda
This study is for providing an analysis of the impact of mobile banking in financial performance of Unguka Bank Ltd(2012-2016). It is analyzing in depth previous studies to review the effect of mobile banking in financial performance of Unguka Bank Ltd. Both Quantitative and Qualitative research methods such as questionnaires and interview were used towards answering the research questions in order to generate primary data. Furthermore, the study tackled on second data for attaining the objectives of the study.The questionnaires were distributed to all senior and employees who have experience with mobile banking. The interview was also administered to managers in order to fully understand the topic under research. This interview, also aimed at compensating for the eventual shortcomings of the questionnaires.
The Determinants of Financial and Operational Sustainability OF Microfinance Institutions: Case Study of Clecam-Ejoheza Ltd.
This research is about analysing the determinants of financial and operations sustainability of Microfinance institutions in Rwanda, particularly the case study of CLECAMEJOHEZA ltd. The study evaluates the financial and operational sustainability of CLECAMEJOHEZA Ltd through a financial analysis by ratios conducted on the financial statements of CLECAM-EJOHEZA Ltd for the period from 2010 to 2015. For instance, to accomplish the measurement of financial and operational sustainability of a company cited above, financial selfsufficiency ratio (FSS) and operational self-sufficiency ratio (OSS) were used as the dependent variables because the Microfinance Financial Reporting Standards recommends the use of financial self-sufficiency (FSS) and operational self-sufficiency (OSS) as measures of sustainability of the MFI.
The Role of Risk Management on Financial Performance of Banking Institutions in Rwanda
The aim of this study is to assess the role of risk management on financial performance in Rwanda institutions: Case study of UNGUKA Bank Ltd undertaken within period 2012-2016. The data was collected through a questionnaire designed for 30 staffs members of Unguka Bank Ltd where both quantitative and qualitative techniques were employed. The interviews were conducted with key informants from like the Unguka bank ltd staffs. Findings shows that the determinants of risk management in Unguka bank Ltd are credit risk, operational risk, interest rate and liquidity risk are the determinants of risk management. The results shows that Unguka bank Ltd is profitable during the covered period because the standard ratio of return on asset is 1% may factors are the cause of that profitability but the quality service are the main cause of the increase of its profitability. The researcher also found out that there is a very strong relationship between risk management and financial performance.
Analysis of Financial Statements for Prediction of Business Sustainability in Rwanda: A Case of Banque Populaire Du Rwanda Ltd
Banks are the company which serve the society on the financial services. Banque populaire du Rwanda (BPR) is the one in providing such activity in Rwanda. Different means are provided to consider BPR activities. The main aim to this study is to analyze the financial indicators and business sustainability determinant of predicting future outlook of BPR Ltd during the period 2011 to 2015. BPR improves its services if it is aware of the sustainability index and the financial indicators as well as the relationship between financial indicators and factors of BPR business sustainability. After the employment of techniques in collecting both primary and secondary data on the sample of 83 out of 1606 total population, the financial indicators and business sustainability were analyzed using Bank Analysis Fact sheet (BAFs) and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).
