Integrating Video Technology in Micro-Teaching Sessions for Teacher-Traineesa Self-Appraisal and Professional Growth

The study examined the relationship between the use of video technology and teacher trainees’ self-appraisal for progressive professional perfectibility. Two null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The quasi-experiment involved 100 third year students of the Faculty of Education, Cross River University of Technology engaged in microteaching. Data was obtained through a well validated ten-item Teacher Trainee Affective Response Questionnaire (TTARQ) developed on a four point Likert-scale by the researchers. The analysis of data was done using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient and independent t-test analysis for the first and second hypotheses respectively at 0.05 level of significance and 98 degree of freedom. The result of the study shows that there is a significant relationship between the use of video technology and teacher trainees’ self-appraisal and evaluation, gender notwithstanding. The study therefore canvassed for the patronage of multi-media technology application in microteaching to enable teacher-trainees objectively assess their performance and also by their instructors and colleagues.

Entrepreneurship, Church Hegemony and Theological Seminary Education in South-South Nigeria

This study aims to ascertain the relationship between and among curriculum outcomes, personality traits, gender role stereotype, and common business practices and entrepreneurial abilities of theological seminary graduates. The study used export-facto research design and examined the effects of curriculum outcome, personality traits, gender role stereotypes, common business practices on entrepreneurial abilities on theological seminary graduates using five questionnaires. Results indicated that the independent variables when taken together correlated negatively with the dependent variable. The correlation was weak. It also showed that majority of the independent variables did not predict or contribute to the dependent variable. Only cognitive curriculum outcomes did the study was limited to theological seminary graduates, and their learning outcomes, personality trait, gender role stereotype, common business practices, and entrepreneurial abilities. This is an example of an identification of entrepreneurial abilities among theological seminary graduates and their ability to close the divide between spiritual and secular ethical principles and practices. This because principles and practices which divide entrepreneurial training have not been introduced into the curriculum of theological seminaries. Equally, job diversity initiatives are not generally part of theological seminary pedagogy.

Financial Well-Being, Psycho-Social Abilities, and Sale or Distribution of Asian and U.S.A. Food Supplements by Public and Private Sector Graduate Employees in South-South Nigeria

An ex-post facto research design was employed to determine the composite and relative correlation between financial well-being of poor salary demoralized private and public sector graduate employees in South – South Nigeria and the sale, or distribution of Asian and U.S.A. brand of food supplements. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 361 University, College of Agriculture, College of Education, Polytechnic and Theological Seminary graduate employees. These, for each of these institutions, were in the category of the unemployed, self employed, private sector employed, and government employed. The causal models were tested through data collected through five instruments: Entrepreneurship Characteristics Self Rating Questionnaire (ECSRQ); the Common Business Practice Questionnaire (CBPQ); the Personality Trait Job Creation Questionnaire (PTJCQ); the Gender Role stereotype Job Creation Questionnaire (GRJCQ); and the Curriculum Outcome Work Behaviour Inventory (COWBI).

Employment Status: Patterns of Tertiary Institution Graduatesa Participation in Entreprenuerial Activities

The study investigated the self employment capabilities of tertiary institution graduates who are government employed, expatriate employed, self employed and unemployed. One thousand two-hundred and twenty (1220) purposively selected tertiary institution graduates were used in the study. Of this number, 196 were self employed, 625 government employed, 177 expatriate employed and 231 unemployed. The Self Employment Characteristic Rating Questionnaire (SECRQ) developed by the National Directorate of Employment in 1985 was used to measure the self employment capabilities of sample. t-test statistics was used to analyse data collected for the study. The result indicated significant differences existed in self employing or private sector employing capabilities of government employed, expatriate employed, and unemployed tertiary institution graduates. The study concluded by recommending private sector than government sector domination of self employing opportunities.

Perception and Attitude towards Pre-Retirement Counselling Among Nigerian Civil Servants

Retirement is usually a period of major changes in the lives of public servants. Most times, some people see such changes as devastating and traumatic. In this study, public servants’ perception of retirement and their attitude towards pre-retirement counselling was surveyed. A representative sample of 1200 civil servants was selected using purposive sampling approach. Responses were elicited from them using a self-structured questionnaire to test one major proposition that guided the study. Data analysis were carried out using one-way ANOVA and tested at 0.05 alpha levels. Results of the study showed that civil servants’ perception of retirement significantly influence their attitude towards pre-retirement counselling with respect to income and expenditure management, health related issues, management of loneliness and change in physical environment. It was recommended among other things that pre-retirement seminars and workshops should be organized for civil servants on a regular basis to prepare them for life at retirement.

University Undergraduate Studentsa Perception of Arts Course Content, Behavioural Outcomes and Entrepreneurial Skills in Cross River State, Nigeria

The study investigated the relationship between undergraduate students’ perception of Art course contents, behavioural outcomes and entrepreneurial skills among undergraduate students in the two universities in Cross River State, Nigeria. The study involved 74 students accidentally selected from the faculty of arts. Ex-post facto design was used for the study. A well validated instrument, students’ opinion questionnaire was used for data collection. The reliability of the studies was ascertained using Cronbatch Alpha Correlation Co-efficient. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient was used for data analysis. The .05 level of significant was used to statistically test each hypothesis. The result showed a statistically significant relationship between undergraduate students’ perception of Art course content curriculum outcomes and entrepreneurial skills. The study recommended among other things, that tertiary school curriculum should be made in such a way as to inculcate and reflect the hopes and aspirations of the society and objectives should be stated in behavioural terms.

Challenging Factors and the Role of the Family Towards Childrenas Literacy. Case of Port Harcourt, Nigeria

The study examines the barriers towards the roles of the family in child’s literacy. It adopted an 11 item questionnaire known as FACHIL as the main instrument. 532 pupils whose age range from 8-13 years were the respondents. The instrument was validated by colleagues who are experts in the area of study and a test retest exercise whose result was 0.75 was adopted to ascertain the instrument’s degree of reliability. Percentages, means and chi-square were used to analyze the data. It established that there is literacy skills among the pupils. Employment and collaboration with teachers as well as teaching and studying with the children were found to be credibly carried out by the families as their roles towards the child’s literacy. Although parents’ literacy level, absence of family library, commitment by parents to examine the children’s book were found as limiting factors. Gender and the nature of schools attended by children were considered to hold significant influence on the child’s literacy level. It was recommended that mass enlightenment is needed to enable the families to effectively discharge their functions.

Information and Communication Technology and Persons with Special Needs in Calabar Municipality in Cross River State, Nigeria

The main purpose of this study is to determine Information and Communication Technology and persons with special needs in Calabar Municipality in Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of this study, three hypotheses were formulated. Survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of one hundred and fifty persons with disabilities was randomly selected for the study. The selection was done through the simple random sampling technique. This was to give equal and independent opportunity to all the respondents to be selected for the study. The questionnaire was the major instrument used for data collection. The instrument was subjected to both face and content validation by expert in measurement and evaluation. The reliability estimate of the instrument was established through the test-retest reliability method Pearson product correlation analysis and independent t-test were employed were adopted to test the hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The result of the analysis reveals that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) significantly relate with persons with hearing and hearing impairments. The result also revealed that there is a significant difference between male and female persons with learning disabled on their perception of information and communication technology (ICT).

Public and Private Sector Participation and Tourism Development in Cross River State, Nigeria

This study assesses the role of public and private sectors in tourism development in Cross River State, Nigeria. Data for the study were collected through structured questionnaire administered to 175 staff from tourism industry as respondents; and semi-structured interview with 10 management staff. The data were statistically analyzed usingpopulation t-test and percentages. The findings of the study revealed that both the public and private sectors are contributing immensely in the development of tourism in the state; and for tourism to be fully developed, both sectors must collaborate to harness the enormous natural resources of the state.

Economic Recession Psycho-Social Human Characteristics and Sale of Fake Drugs by Tertiary Institution Graduates in South-South Nigeria

This export facto study was carried out to determine the impact of sex, curriculum outcomes, personality trait, gender rolesterotype and common business on the running of fake drug stops by tertiary institution graduates in the event of economic recession. 361 tertiary institution graduates were used for the study multiple regression analysis, and t-test showed their activities to have been influenced by common business practices and personality traits; and the sample members differed as males and females only in the influence of extrovert personality trait which only skewed towards the males. Five questionnaires were used for the study and it findings provided support that informal business practices and education strategies present value employment opportunities that help economic recession victims engage in fake drug sales.
