The purpose of this thesis is to design a three phase converter, whose switching pattern is arranged in a Matrix form and the converter is commonly known as three phase Matrix converter. This AC-AC system is proposed as an effective replacement for the conventional ACDC- AC system which employs a two-step power conversion. The thesis analyzes the performance of matrix converter with two modulation techniques such as SVPWM and SVM. The basic principle and switching sequence of these modulation techniques have been presented. The output voltage, output current waveforms, voltage transfer ratio and THD spectrum of switching waveforms connected to different type of loads are analyzed by using Matlab/Simulink software.
This paper assessed public housing supply in Nigeria with a specific focus on Moremi Estate, lle-Ife, Osun State. With the discussion of the indispensability of housing as the background, the evolution of public housing supply in the country is surveyed vis-a-vis the contribution of the various development plans and housing policy of the federal government. A look is then taken at how Moremi Estate fares in meeting the housing needs of the inhabitants. It was discovered through field survey that there are some inherent fundamental functionality flaws in the land use pattern of the estate. These include the lack of low-density residential plots, adequate security, standard commercial centre and organized open space. Besides, the roads in the estate are not tarred public/semi-public facilities are not fully developed; and the already allocated plots are characterized by a low level of development. Recommendations are proffered towards the realization of the full potentialities of the estate in particular, and more effectiveness of public housing delivery in the nation at large.
An appropriate capital structure is a critical decision for any business organization to be taken by business organization for maximization of shareholders wealth and sustained growth. Thus, the major focus of this study is to investigate empirically firm specific factors such as, firm leverage, growth opportunities, size, risk, tangibility and liquidity were impacts on performance in Ethiopian insurance companies from 2004-2013 annual reports. The results show that firm leverage, Size, tangibility and business risk are significant impact on performance of insurance companies in Ethiopia. While firm growth and liquidity are not clear and statistical proved relationship are obtained from the regression analysis. The results provide strong evidence in support of the pecking order theory of capital structure which asserts that leverage is a significant determinant of firms’ performance. A significant negative relationship is established between leverage and performance. From the findings the researcher recommended that the sample of insurance companies in Ethiopia use more equity than debt in financing their business activities, this because if the value of business can be enhanced with debt capital, it is dangerous for the firm.
The ASEAN, which groups eleven countries, is a very diverse region, with different dynamics that are owned by their respective countries, particularly when associated with education. Diversities can be seen from the many islands, ethnicity, culture, language and religion. Regardless all those differences, these eleven countries share a similar emphasis on human resource development as a key in developing the whole nation to enter the knowledge-based economy and global environment. Pluralism that is the one of the power and uniqueness in the ASEAN economic community that can be interpreted as diversity in unity. Diversity, on the one hand is a blessing, because it actually reflects the diversity of the wealth of cultural treasures. But on the other hand, diversity is also great potential for growing proliferation of conflicts, particularly if such diversity is not able to run well. To build the ASEAN community who recognize and appreciate the differences required processes and better understanding through relevant education. Education, as a fundamental human right, is considered very important and strategic for developing their human resources. The right to education imposes an obligation upon countries to ensure that all children and citizens have opportunities to meet their basic learning needs. Promoting Quality and Equity Education is a common policy for countries in Southeast Asia region regardless their different levels of development. Herein lies the importance of multicultural education. Multicultural education becomes strategic for ASEAN nations to be able to manage the plurality creatively. And with the multicultural education can be interpreted also as a process of internalization of the values of multiculturalism itself in educational institutions.
A rapid, sensitive and simple spectrophotometric procedure for the assay of the smaller amounts measures from sodium salicylate at pharmaceutical preparations (topical-solution) was examined. The procedure is focus on a diazotization and reaction coupling between sodium salicylate and diazotized para-amino benzoic acid in alkaline medium for the formation of an intensive bright yellow soluble water colour which was being stable, which gives highly absorption at 452nm. The law of Beer was Introduced on the range of concentration from(2-30) μg.ml-1 of sodium salicylate, the molar absorptivity and the sensitivity of Sandell index were 8.5013×103 l mol-1 cm-1, 0.0188 μg/cm2 subsequently, The procedure does not need to the control of temperature and the extraction by the solvent. The perfect circumstances for all colour increasing are portrayed and the examined procedure has been very good application on the assay of sodium salicylate at topical- solution preparations. The general excipients materials and additives did not affect the examined procedure.
Mutual funds are an integral part of the stock market. It has become the investment avenue for large number of investors in the past 10 years. Also the stock market volatility is high in these years. Thus in order to analyze the performance of top funds under importance schemes, a research has been done. Ten mutual funds in the income fund category were selected based on their returns. The main focus of this research is to find the risk and return features and study the performance of the funds and to compare it with the market return. The research is limited NAV data for ten income funds available for (2005-2015). The findings will be useful to bring out insight into investment avenues.
The main purpose of this paper is twofold. First, it aims to estimate the effect of the tightening of regulatory capital requirements on the real economy during credit upswing. Second, it intends to show whether applying a countercyclical capital buffer measure, as per the Basel III rules, could have helped decelerate FX lending growth in Hungary, mitigating the build-up of vulnerabilities in the run-up to the global financial crisis. To answer these questions, we use a Vector Autoregression-based approach to understand how shocks affected to capital adequacy in the pre-crisis period. Our results suggest that regulatory authorities could have slowed the increase in lending temporarily. They would not, however, have been able to avoid the upswing in FX lending by requiring countercyclical capital buffers even if such a tool had been available and they had reacted quickly to accelerating credit growth. Our results also suggest that a more pronounced tightening might have reduced FX lending substantially, but at the expense of real GDP growth. The reason is that an unsustainable fiscal policy led to a trade-off between economic growth and the build-up of new vulnerabilities in the form of FX lending.
Evaluation of varieties from different years in a common environment is the most direct of the several methods that have been used to estimate breeding progress. 33 tef varieties released in Ethiopia since 1970 till now were evaluated at DebreZeit and Melkassa Agricultural Research Centers to estimate the amount of genetic gain made over time in grain yield potential and associated characters. The varieties were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications in 2012 cropping season. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among varieties for all traits except hundred seed weight on both locations.Grain yield was increased from 3848.68 kg ha-1 to 4934.4kg ha-1 over the past 42 years. The average annual rate of increase per year for the period of 1970-2012 was estimated from the linear regression of mean grain yield on year of variety release was 21.53 kg ha-1 with a relative genetic gain of 0.56% year-1 which was highly significantly different from zero. Grain yield potential of tef has not attained plateau in Ethiopia. Thus, development of higher yielding varieties of tef should continue to increase tef grain yields if past trends pretend the future. Biomass yield also showed highly significantly increase with annual genetic gain of 73.74 kg ha-1 year-1. Similarly grain yield per day and biomass production rate at both locations showed highly significantly different from zero except biomass production rate at Melkassa which was significantly increased with year of release. On the contrary, days to panicle emergency, days to maturity and lodging index at both locations showed non-significant decreasing trend over years. Linear regression also indicated that significant improvements in yield panicle-1 and panicle weight across location and at both location respectively. No marked changes were observed in days to seedling emergency, harvest index, plant height, panicle length and hundred seed weight during the study period which im
Recent years have witnessed extensive research efforts that aim at improving the aerodynamic performance of aircraft. while most of the efforts are drawn towards high-lift systems, simple and innovative designs like Gurney flaps, trapped vortex cavities and backwardfacing steps can have a significant effect on enhancing the aerodynamic properties of airfoils. One of those simple ideas is the Kline-Fogleman modified airfoil (KFm-2), which is basically an airfoil with a backward-facing step on the upper surface located at midway the chord length. it is claimed that the step creates a low pressure recirculation region on the suction side of the airfoil that may enhance the lifting force. This study will numerically examine the ability of the KFm-2 design to enhance the lift and drag properties of a NACA 2412 at a high Reynolds number of 5.9 × 106. The effect of the step depth and the step angle will be thoroughly examined.
This study simulated underground circular cylindrical shell structure to serve as water reservoir under known soil characteristics and conditions. Cognizance of prevailing acute scarcity of portable water supply, more often than not, during each year, this structural facility was also simulated for study under two distinct situations namely: when it is empty and when it is full of water. Structural analysis of the facility was carried out using the initial value model whereas the classical model served to establish validity. The study sought the stress effect arising from: empty condition and in full of water, on this facility. The investigation result revealed: Both classical and initial value models led to identical results. Effect of stress which resulted from the two different conditions did not diminish the structural integrity of this facility.
