Scholars have always discussed Àrokò in relation to the use of symbols, signs and material objects. These include salt, snail shells, horse tales, sword or cutlass, and gun, among others. Each of these symbols has its own interpretation. This present paper looks beyond the aforementioned symbols. While such symbols have to do with Yorùbá cultural way of communication, this paper discusses Àrokò in relation to Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Àrokò as one of the Yorùbá cultural ways of communication is encapsulated in symbols and signs. This cultural practice is a branch of Semiotics studied within the purview of Linguistic Anthropology. However, we are going to show in this paper that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has brought into being new forms of Àrokò which have made the old ones to give way to the modern ones. And that these modern ones which is the focus of this paper arerelated to the use of Global System of Mobile Communications (GSM) and are prevalent among the youth.
This paper presents the outcome of a study of an I-section Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) beam including retrofitting for damage effects. A total of three beam tests were conducted in the following sequence: GFRP beam with no retrofitting and a single mid-span web brace; the partially damaged (cracked) beam with GFRP plates used for retrofitting; and the retrofitted beam re-tested with the lateral brace at the top flange level. Both cracking and lateral-torsional buckling behavior is studied and experimental load-deflection relationships recorded. Using the mechanical properties of GFRP based on the experimental data, theoretical predictions are made for the buckling load values. The results show that retrofitted damaged beam provided about half of the original strength of the undamaged beam. The study also shows that the mid-span brace played a significant role in beam behavior and strength.
In the urinary bladder, majority of the neoplasms are of pure epithelial origin. In contrast pure mesenchymal tumors and biphasic epithelial-mesenchymal neoplasms, although documented, rarely occur at this site Heterologous carcinosarcomas (also called metaplastic carcinomas or sarcomatoid carcinomas with heterologous differentiation) are defined as biphasic tumors made up of a varying mixture of carcinomatous and heterologous sarcomatous components with abrupt or gradual transition between one component and the other. These are rare tumors and account for approximately 0.3% of all bladder malignancies with a poor prognosis. Because of its unfavorable histopathologic nature and also its rarity, not much is known about the various treatment options in these tumors. The overall 5 year cancer specific survival rate after cystectomy is only 20.3%.
This paper looks at seva as a form of faith-based social work in India. I identified a random sample of 1017 followers of Hindu faith-based organizations having social service projects. These followers are also doers of seva as a form of engagement with the organizations. My purpose was to understand seva through their lens particularly with a focus on their profiles; engagement chronicles (initiation, duration, type of seva, motivation) and perceived implications for self and society. Seva is viewed as having transcendental benefits for self and as having a unique package of moral philosophy and tangible goals of social development.
The arising of business globalization in recent decades changed the market of symbolic goods, in the soccer field, in a billionaire and complex business. These factors led to radical changes in the form of consumption of this sport, which generated a great increase in revenues to the teams, grounded in marketing models of major European leagues. Through descriptive research, ex-post-factum, using the technique of in-depth interviews with managers and project participants for subsequent content analysis, this research sought to identify the strategies employed to value the Corinthians brand (soccer team from São Paulo, Brazil)in a perspective of business strategy. The survey results, point out the importance of entrepreneurial vision to explore the valuable, rare, inimitable and irreplaceable resources present in VRIO model, as stated by the Resources Business View (RBV) theory, to achieve differentiated positioning. Limitations of the research are in proper character of the phenomenological method that favors the rescue of "original speech" of the project participants as it was done in this case. So it is not recommended one could make generalizations of the results presented, although it represents a significant and real context of soccer business in Brazil.
In recent technological development people are experiencing unprecedentedly data explosion, reading, writing, and collecting different kinds of information from local computer and the global Web. As such most of the times during web search peoples revisit information that have ever been come across occasionally or intentionally. But in most of the cased users do not know enough information, while refinding is a more directed process as users have already seen the information before. A general way to support information refinding is to maintain access logs, recording what users have ever seen based on their revisit frequencies. This survey paper gives the different techniques for context based information refinding systems with intent to give the direction of the my project work with improved context based information refinding system.
Phytoattenuation is a novel green remediation approach which can be employed in both a sediment and a soil decomination. Pot experiments have been conducted to evaluation two pollution levels of a sediments consisted of high pollution from swine industries and low contamination from campus wetland. EDTA demonstrated satisfactory metal uptake and mobility enhancement has been achieved. Pb is less mobile which induced low vetiver translocation while Zn is the most mobile which possesses high bioavailability. Four sessions of planting and harvesting gradually decreasing Cu and Zn levels the constrictions decreasing to achieve local a sediment criteria which can be used for agricultural a soil conditioning. The results of this study is prominent with gradually mitigating a sediment contamination is less detriment to a sediment properties relative to commonly used a soil washing.
Background: The private health service has influenced the escalation of out of pocket spending (OOPS), while there is an established free health service in Sri Lanka. Aim: This study evaluates the extent, impact and reasons for rising OOPS among patients admitted to two teaching hospitals in central Sri Lanka. Setting and Design: Prospective mixed method was used and quantitative and qualitative data regarding health expenses were gathered by an interviewer-administered questionnaire among 100 consecutive admissions with acute febrile illnesses. Results: Majority (78%) expressed concern about cost of care; low and high income groups have spent 33.6% and 10.7% respectively, of their monthly earning for the current acute febrile illness. low-income group with lack of savings have managed with loans and curtailing routine living expenses of the family. Conclusion: OOPS appears to be a considerable burden on the public. Deficiencies of doctor patient communication and lack of defined target population could be responsible for this situation.
Flood constitute one of the critical problems faced by Bangladesh. Due to the unique graphical situation of Bangladesh in the delta of three great rivers, namely the Brahmaputra, the Padma and the Meghna, which drains a vast catchment, flood in this country is usually complex. The problem is gigantic and becomes more complicated with the passage of time. The flood in 1998 sever flood is the highest record. Analysis of water level data of two stations shows that the forecasting model is a linear equation of the type Y= a+bX. Data of the nine hydrologic years have been analyzed in this paper. In most cases values of co-efficient “a” varies from 0.3112 to 1.558 and “b” from 1.047 to 11.91. The general equation for the flood forecasting for the GoalundoTransi station has been established as Y = 1.283X - 8.351 in this paper. The value of travel time of flood wave from base station to forecasting station according to historical method andMutreja’s method is 2days for both.
The application of metal coatings by welding of steels and alloys resistant to corrosion is an alternative quite reasonable economically facing the manufacturing of solid components in these alloys. However there is a lack of information about the mechanical / metallurgical changes caused by thermal cycles of welding due to the application of these coatings, especially about its influence on the level of residual stresses, that it is essential to understand the phenomenon of stress-assisted corrosion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of the superficial residual stresses in coatings of AWS E308L T-1 stainless steel applied by the FCAW process on steel plates of ASTM A36. The measurements of residual stresses were performed by a portable X - ray diffractometer on the surface of the coatings and the main results obtained were that the nature of residual stresses on the surface of the coatings always showed compressive and it was not observed linearity of the magnitude of the residual stresses as a function of the welding heat input.
