The conductometric studies of the solution of manganese butyrate and caprylate in a mixture of 50% Benzene and 50% Methanol (v/v) were employed to determine the specific conductance, limiting molar conductance at infinite dilution, degree of dissociation, dissociation constant and CMC. The values of critical micelles concentration decreases with increasing chain length of fatty acid component. The result show that the soaps behaves as a weak electrolytes below the CMC. The thermodynamic parameters for both dissociation and association processes are evaluated.
This paper focuses on the effect of surfactants on the bubble size. Bubble size in SDS/water system were investigated at various superficial gas velocities (0.13, 0.26 and 0.5 cm/s). On the other hands, Bubble diameter were determined for different values of SDS surfactant concentration. Surfactant concentration in water were 0.05, 0.02 and 0.1 vol.%. Tap water and aqueous solutions with surfactants (anionic, non-ionic and zwitterionic) are used as liquid phases. The bubbles size in this phase is determined at Cs =0.05%vol and ug=0.13cm/s. The bubbles are generated into a small-scale bubble column making of Plexiglas with height of 1.2m. High speed photography techniques are used to measure the bubble size. The experimental results were shown that bubble diameter in SDS/water system is larger than other systems. In solution of SDS, Sauter mean bubble diameter (Location A and D) decreases when superficial gas velocity increased.
Objective: To review genetic risk factors, biological and psychosocial aspects of male breast cancer, and comparison between male and female breast cancer.Method: A systematic review of the literature between 1990 and 2013 was conducted to identify studies relevant to the objective. Searches were carried out on the database PubMed, by using the title term “Male Breast Cancer” (MBC).Results: Genetic risk factors for MBC are poorly understood. Family history is a definite risk factor. BRCA2 mutations are more frequent than BRCA1. Men with Klinefelter’s syndrome have a high risk of being affected by MBC. The majority of male breast cancers are hormone positive. Informative and psychological support for male breast cancer patients is poor. Diagnosis and treatment of MBC is similar to that of female patients. It is believed that prognosis of male patients is equal to that of age- and stage-matched women, but there is no consensus about this. Conclusion: Increased input is needed for informative and psychological support for MBC patients. Public education should be orientedtoward men at higher risk to reduce symptom duration before diagnosis.
The concept of employability has been in the literature for many years. Current interest has been driven by the changing nature in public employment policy, with increasing emphasis being given to skillsbased solutions to economic competition and work-based solutions to social deprivation. It is supposed there is end of ‘careers’ and “lifetime job security”, which have, of course, only ever applied to a minority of the Workforce, the greater uncertainty among employers as to the levels and types of jobs they may have in the future, and the need to build new relationships with employees is the need of the hour. The paper discusses at length, the ingredients of employability and the “Type of Engineers” the industry is looking for. To ensure continued employment and smooth transition from one “employment to another”, engineers must follow the principles stated in this paper.
Wind is most probable future fuel for production of electricity. Due to the fact that power production using nonrenewable fuel is become costly and they are diminishing day by day.Weibull distribution which is a good statistical tools for analyzing characteristics of wind and power probability of wind. So by using Nordex N80 wind turbine we get power which is supplied to the remote sites of local areas. We got few hundred kilowatt power. Here, We proposed a new hybrid power system. Where wind power, solar power and Hydrogen power are connected .Wind power supplied to electric load but when more power is generated, it supplied to electrolyzer. Electrolyzer produced Hydrogen from water. A battery is used for power smoothing ofelectrolyzer. Hydrozen then stored in a Hydrogen storage tank. A fuel cellis used to produced power. This then connected to ac and supplied to local electric load. A solar power system is also connected in this system. The solar power goes to electrolyzer or with the output of fuel cell when needed. In this way we generated power easily for local areas.
This paper presents the mathematical model of the brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive fed by the hysteresis current controlled inverter, which is designed using the new switching function concept. The developed simulation model is applied with the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) controller as speed controllers to enhance the performance of the BLDC motor drive system. The complementary strengths of FLC and neural networks are combined together to obtain the ANFIS controller. The ANFIS controller is trained by the data of closed loop BLDC motor drive system simulated with PI controller. The ANFIS controller avoids the selection of fuzzy control rules and tuning of membership functions in the manual manner as done in FLC. A comparative study of different performance specifications is proposed between FLC and ANFIS speed controller as applied to the BLDC motor drive system. The simulation results show that the ANFIS controller is more effective as compared to FLC during most of the operating conditions considered.
Introduction: Previously undiagnosed anemia is common in elective orthopedic surgery and is associated with increased likelihood of blood transfusion, as well as increased perioperative morbidity and mortality. A multidisciplinary panel of physicians was convened by the Network for Advancement of Transfusion Alternatives (NATA) with the aim of developing practice guidelines for the detection, evaluation and management of preoperative anemia in elective orthopedic surgery. Methods and results: The following recommendations were made for the patients scheduled for the orthopedic surgery: 1. The hemoglobin level was estimated to be based on at least 28 days before the planned orthopedic surgery, 2. Preoperative hemoglobin level recommended for women ≥120g/l and for men ≥130g/l, 3. In case of the existence of anemia, the immediate implementation of laboratory testing to determine the cause of anemia was recommended, 4. Any nutritional deficiency should be compensated 5. Conclusion: Use of stimulators of erythropoiesis is recommended.
Introduction: Use scoring systems facilitates and enables decision making about the appropriate therapeutic treatment (right evaluation and classification of the patient group at high risk), which can also increase the likelihood of survival rationalize a decision on the need and intensity of therapy. Aims: To analyze the Pediatric Logistics Organ Dysfunction Scoring system (PELOD) and Pediatric Risk Score of Mortality (PRISM), in the surgical intensive care unit (ICU) of tertiary pediatric medical facility. Methods: The study included a 90 patients aged 0-18 years, in the period of three years. To analyze parameters of the PELOD and PRISM score. In the analysis were used statistical data about predictors of mortality: Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test (HL-GOF). Results: The mean value of PRISM score in the group of patients with favorable outcome of treatment was 8 and with lethal outcome 18. The mean value of PELOD score in the group of patients with favorable outcome of treatment was 7.7 and with lethal outcome 17.7. The area under the ROC curve for the PRISM score was 0.8306, for the PELOD score it was 0.7967. Calibration values expressed in HL-GOF for PRISM score were 2.913,while the PELOD score they were 0.60971). Conclusion: Initial assessment, daily monitoring and reliable prediction of the final outcome of the application of pediatric scoring systems allow rising efficiency and rationalization of work in an intensive care unit.
This paper discusses the global financial crisis and Nigeria Economy. The crisis started with the US mortgage default cumulated to the system wide credit collapse and finally to the collapse of the global economy. The causes of the crisis are discussed in point. The New classical framework for the explanation of the current economic crisis is given. The ordinary least square Technique of analysis will be adopted; dummies will be used to capture qualitative variables. Also highlighted are the effects of the crisis on the Nigerian economy. Measures for overcoming the problems are advanced. The paper concludes that the crisis provide an opportunity and rationale to move more quickly to address overdue reforms in areas as diverse as financial regulation and inclusion, trade competition and public sector improvement in the Nigerian economy.
