This paper is an attempt to highlight operational deficiencies in the execution of educational reforms in UAE with relation to academic leadership. However, this study concluded that UAE is not ready for the change of this magnitude because of its rigid culture.
This work is aimed at investigating the effect of alkali treatment and fibre load on the tensile properties and hardness of coconut fibre-ortho unsaturated polyester composites. The short length fibres were incorporated into ortho unsaturated polyester resin. The treated and untreated fibre composite samples were subjected to tensile tests according to ASTM D638 using Instron model 3369. The tensile tests include tensile strength, modulus, load at break, tensile strain at break and extension at break. The Micro-hardness test was carried out by forcing a diamond cone indenter into the surface of the hardness specimen to create an indentation. The significant findings of the research showed that alkali treatment improved the tensile properties and hardness of the composite. The tensile properties at 10% fibre load where greatly enhanced while 15% fibre load is best for micro hardness.
Raphanus sativus Linn. (Radish) is an annual herb of family Cruciferae or Brassicaceae and grown as an edible root. Objectives : The aim of the study is to test the potentiality of different solvent extracts (Ethanol, Methanol, Ethyl Acetate, Chloroform, Benzene, Aqueous hot and Aqueous cold) against various pathogenic bacterial strains E.coli (ATCC-25922), Klebsiella pneumonia (ATCC-27736), Proteus vulgaris (ATCC-6380), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC-27853), Staphalococcus aureus (ATCC-25923), Shigella sonnie (ATCC-25931), Salmonella typhi (ATCC-25241) and Salmonella paratyphi (ATCC-9150). Methods : The antibacterial activity was performed in vitro using Agar well diffusion assay and diameter of zone of inhibition was measured. Results : Among all the extracts Ethanolic and Methanolic extracts showed maximum antibacterial activity against all the bacterial strain used with a zone of inhibition ranges from 12-21mm and the least activity was observed in Aqueous cold extract with zone of inhibition ranges from 7-9mm. The test results were compared with standard antibiotics chloramphenicol and Ciprofloxacine. Conclusions : The qualitative analysis of different extracts of Raphanus sativus seed reveals the presence of Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Glycosides, Phenols, Tannins, Saponin, Sterols and Protien which may be responsible for the observed antibacterial activity. The results suggest that ethnolic and methnolic extracts can be used in the treatment of infection caused by these bacterial strains used in this study.
802.11 standards based WLAN is one very successful technology in commerce. Huge number of WLAN has been deployed across the world. It’s very worthwhile to investigate link characteristics of WLAN and its effects to upper layers, especially TCP protocol which is used by numerous network applications. The 802.11 standard is firstly introduced in this section.
The study aimed to examine the correlations among human resources roles, professional competencies and emotional intelligence in the sector of Hotel Industry (5 stars) in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Data were collected through a questionnaire from a sample of managers (major departments) in the international hotels in Capital Amman. The questionnaire which was developed and distributed during the summer of 2012 includes 14 main dimensions covering the model of study. LISREL Analysis (Linear Structure Model Analysis) is used in the study to verification the correlations among the independent and independent variables. The degree of the positive fitness of the Hypothetical model and test of the results of each hypotheses indicates that achieve an acceptable level (GFI= 0.78 and CFI= 0.87).
Extensive research shows that men report greater enjoyment and excitement from taking risks than do women. What remains to be answered is why women seem to exhibit risk attitudes that are less aggressive than men. In this paper, we apply aspects of power-control theory (PCT) as a theoretical foundation for explaining generalized risk-taking attitudes among women and men. We investigate the role of socialization from mothers in shaping the risk attitudes of their children. Using data from the NLSY, mothers were found to have little influence on the risk attitudes on daughters, although mothers’ SES may impart a profound influence on sons’ risk tolerances. It was also noted that children’s personality trait profiles were positively associated with their risk attitudes although the effects for boys differed from those of girls.
Analysis of deep beam by using CAST software based on strut and tie method. As per ACI 318-05(Appendix -A). Design and casting of several deep beam using STM. Testing of deep beams in heavy structures laboratory for two point loading condition. Measurement of strain, load and deflection under controlled condition. Comparison of analytical flexure strain with experimental results.
This paper evaluates the effects of gas flaring and oil spillage on rainwater quality for domestic use in Okpai and Beneku areas of Delta State, Nigeria. Both field and laboratory techniques were employed in the analyses of rainwater quality. Rain water samples were collected in the dry (December, January and February) and wet (June, July and August) seasons from Okpai (experimental site) and Benekuku (controlled site). The water samples were analyzed for chemical, physical and biological parameters using the methods of Radojevic and Bashkin, 1976; USEPA ,2007; and Kolo, 2007.The results showed that gas flaring and oil spillage have significantly changed some physic-chemical and biological properties of drinking water in the study area. For instance, there were changes in the taste, color, temperature, conductivity, alkalinity and total dissolved salts. These could have serious health implications on the ihabitants of the area. Apart from these, other parameters analyzed corresponded to the approved maximum permissible limits for drinking water set by NAFDAC, USEPA and WHO.
The Pharmacotherapy of drugs used in the management of ischemic heart disease at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan between June 1998 and May 2007, was studied retrospectively. The objective was to assess the rational use of the prescribed drugs and to determine the tolerability and benefits of using nitrates, betablockers, calcium channel blockers and acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin). A total of 52 case files of patients with ischemic heart disease were randomly selected from the central medical record department and used for the study. Information extracted includes demographic data, the prescribed drugs and side effects. Results showed that males 27(51.9%) were more affected with ischemic heart disease than females 25(48.1%). Age range between 51- 60 years were 15(28.8%) and constituted the highest percentage with mean 54.1 years. Nitrates 36 (30.5%) were the highest prescribed drugs followed by acetylsalicylic acid 29 (24.5%), angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors 14 (11.9%), beta blockers 13(10.9%), sedatives 11(9.3%), calcium channel blockers 8 (6.7%), morphine sulphate 4 (3.3%) and dopamine 3 (2.5%). Side effects documented were headache 8(19.2%), dizziness 5(12.2%), flushing 5(12.2%), tachycardia 4(9.7%), bronchoconstriction 2(4.8%), and depression 7(17.0%). There is a need for proper education of patients on dietary pattern, smoking ceasation, moderate exercise and drug compliance.
The purpose of this research is to identify the major barriers which are confronted by physicians and doctors in the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs). This study will lead to various relative dimensions of Health Information Technology (HIT) with the involvement of Meaningful Use, Generic Role of the Government, and Technology evaluation. These selected variables will help us to develop a composite view on this study. The proposed theoretical framework evaluates the degree of reluctance in physicians along with imminent challenges, possibilities and plans that will streamline future incentives too.
