One of the greatest challenges mankind faces today is environmental pollution, which is seen as a major threat and can cause global warming. The major causes of pollution are energy, automobiles and electrical appliances. Approximately 40% of the pollution is caused by the energy sector. Reducing this kind of pollution has given opportunity to researcher to carry out research in natural sources of energy like water, wind, solar, bio-gas etc. This paper examines the requirement on energy consumption and the efforts of BRICS nations towards shifting to renewable energy. In addition, this paper conducts a comparative study of the electricity mix, energy consumption and carbon emissions that BRICS countries have carried out. This study reveals that the main reason in power production is the rise of renewable energy in India and Brazil and these countries have been active in shifting to renewable energy. Russia had not made any efforts, whereas South Africa was just getting involved. India had initiated trade deals with BRICS countries through ‘Make India’ for renewable energy products. Among BRICS countries, China had carried out maximum trades for renewable energy.
