Background: Central neurogenic hyperventilation (CNH) is a rare but well documented complication after endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) in adults. Case Characteristics: 6 year old developed CNH, acute respiratory alkalosis, intraoperative tachycardia and lactic acidosis following ETV for a pineal gland tumour causing obstructive hydrocephalus. Observations: Attributed to irritation of the hypothalamus while irrigating the floor of the thrid ventricle with normal saline. Outcome: Treatment with sedation and oxygen via rebreathing mask resulted in normalization of symptoms and blood gas. Message: CNH can occur in children following ETV and should be recognized early. Measurement of ICP during ETV and use of alternative irrigation fluids such as lactated ringer’s or artificial CSF may minimize occurrence.

Psychoanalysis is one of the modern theories that are used in English literature. It is a theory that is regarded as a theory of personality organization and the dynamics of personality that guides psychoanalysis. It is known that the closet connection between literature and psychoanalysis has always been deployed by the academic field of literary criticism or literary theory. Among the critical approaches to literature, the psychoanalysis has been one of the most controversial and for many readers the least appreciated. In spite of that it has been regarded one of the fascinating and rewarding approach in the application of interpretative analysis. This psychological interpretation has become one of the mechanisms to find out the hidden meaning of a literary text. It also helps to explore the innate conglomerate of the writer’s personality as factors that contribute to his experience from birth to the period of writing a book. The goal of psychoanalysis was to show that behaviour which was caused by the interaction between unconscious and unconsciousness. The proposed work titled ‘Psychoanalytic theory used in English Literature: A Descriptive Study’ aims to explore where psychoanalysis has been used by the author’s in his/her literary works in English literature. This article also discusses the different psychoanalytic theory which was born out of the self-analysis under taken by Sigmund Freud in 1897.
Many people (including non-Nigerians) are aware that there was a serious crisis between the Ijo and Itsekiri of the Warri area of the Western Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Some of these people may also be aware that the crisis was caused mainly by the relocation of the headquarters of the then newly created Warri South (later Warri South-West) Local Government Area from Ogbe-Ijoh, an Ijo town, to Ogidigben, an Itsekiri town, by the General SaniAbacha – led Federal Military Government of the time. What many may not be aware of, is how the crisis was resolved. This article examines the efforts made by the Delta State and Federal Governments of Nigeria to end the crisis.
The article raises the question of revision of Maxwell’s electrodynamics and the refusal from of the Lorentz calibration. Relatively modest results of years of work of the collective of the National Research Centre "Kurchatov Institute" in the creation of a fusion reactor based on the tokamak due to the fact that Maxwell’s electrodynamics is very different from the real electrodynamics in a tokamak. The tunnel effect points the way for a truly controlled nuclear fusion. The article says that the relativistic equations for calculating the energy of the accelerator cannot be used and physicists have to ask the question: "What is the true energy of the charged particles in the accelerator?".
The introduction of electronic learning (EL) has been initiated in Higher Institutions of Learning (HIL) as an attempt to improve on education institutions’ service delivery. By adopting the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, this study was aimed at investigating the determinants of the e-learning adoption in HIL where eight TOE factors were examined. The study adopted a quantitative approach, a descriptive research and cross-sectional survey for the research design. A questionnaire was developed based on the eight identified TOE study constructs and administered to a population of 5438 students in three Faculties of Makerere University Business School (MUBS). In regard to data analysis, factor analysis and assessment of reliability and validity of the measurements items was done. Finally, a multiple regression analysis was carried out to evaluate the relationship between the predictor variables and e-learning adoption. The findings of this study imply that the TOE can be used to analyze ELearning adoption in Universities and other HIL as relative advantage, complexity, compatibility, size, competitive intensity and regulatory environment were identified as significant predictors of EL adoption. Whereas top management support and IT/IS knowledge are insignificant predictors in the adoption of EL.
Abundant studies were undertaken throughout the world, mainly in the context of advanced economy, to investigate the correlation between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate financial performance (CFP) though the studies came up with conflicting results. Some studies shows a positive relationship between corporate social responsibility practice and firm financial performance (see for example, Waddock & Graves, 1997; Cheruiyot, 2010), on the other hand, some of the studies shows negative relationship (Cordeiro & Sarkis, 1997; Wagner et al, 2002) and still others showing that there is no relationship between the two variables (McWilliams & Siegel, 2000; Aragon & Lopez, 2007). This study used a mixed research approach and applied multivariate econometric model to assess the relationship between CSR and Banks’ financial performance in Ethiopia. The finding shows that, there is no relationship between the financial contribution for CSR activities and CFP at 1% significance level which similar to the findings of McWilliams & Siegel, 2000; Aragon & Lopez, 2007.
The study was aimed at assessing skills possessed by secretaries for effective electronic records management in polytechnics in North-Central, Nigeria. Three research questions guided the study. Two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study comprised 366 secretaries in ten polytechnics in North- Central, Nigeria. forty one questionnaire items were developed and validated by two experts.Cronbach Alpha coefficient measure of internal consistency was use to test the reliability value of the instrument. The results of the reliability test were as follows, 0.97, 054, and 0.94.The results of the reliability test yielded a value of 0.82 for the entire items. The Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the three research questions. The z- test and ANOVA were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.
Small and micro- enterprises play an important role in developing a country even though they are not given adequate attention and have been biased towards larger and listed enterprises. This study investigates the factors affecting the successful growth and survival of small and micro- enterprises in Zimmerman ward, Nairobi County. The survey utilized a descriptive research design whereby descriptive statistics based on frequency tables and graphs provided information on demographic variables. Data was collected through questionnaire instrument. Convenience sampling technique was used because of the rationale that respondents were easily accessible. Statistical Package for Social Sciences 20.0 was used to analyze and present results. Techniques used included percentage analysis, samples and mean analysis. Inferential statistics (Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient) and multiple regressions were then applied to determine prediction level of the variables.
