Various studies have explored the concept of staff reward and recognition schemes and the effect they have on staff motivation and performance. Attention has also been given to how these programs contribute to the overall realization of organizational goals. This study was conducted to determine the effects of reward and recognition on employee job performance in Kenyatta University. Moreover, the relationship between other factors affecting performance (working environment and leadership styles) and performance was also explored with the help of responses collected from employees working in Kenyatta University main campus, Nairobi. A descriptive research design was used in the investigation of the effects of rewards and recognition on Kenyatta University staff performance. Stratified random sampling and purposive random sampling were used in sampling design.
The cult of honor is second of four stages in the fullest possible development of society (credit where due to Spencer’s Social Statics). It often devolves into its antithesis, the ‘cult of dignity’, (Herrman,2017) thereby diminishing what the cult of honor otherwise provides, namely, the quality of our militaries, religious structures, professions and bureaucracies; because of the cult we are prepared to enter ‘ad hoc’ offices on cause – the good Samaritan, e.g. The cult of honor is first of all a ritualized expression of a social ideal, specifically of traits that can be termed ‘honorable’. It very oftenarises either because persons or groups wish to experience pride in their cultural heritage or because they feel a calling to excel at culturally relevant activities. This paper also advances the view that the concept of ‘sportsmanship’ mirrors what the cult stands for,and what public expectationboth requires and demands. Characteristics of some thirty cults throughout three primary types of office are shown to reflect the concept.
The information seeking behaviour, is considered as a human behaviour to search for information in purposeful way to find the gap. This behaviour sometimes is very undefinable. The study investigated use of electronic resources by students of the College of Business Administration (CBA) and College of Information Technology (CIT). That is, it examined possible factors and problems in their searching habits, information seeking, use and retrieval in satisfying their needs. Therefore, the study focused on information seeking behaviour of students and barriers to utilizing online resources to execute academic tasks. Students of University of Dubai ultimately, due to cultural effects adopts different searching processes, use different phrases and mostly spend more time to search for information to satisfy their needs. It is assumed that poor information skills are preventing them from searching information effectively.
The importance of social networking sites can never be over emphasized asit has been put to diverse use by different people and groups fordifferent purposes. It is as a result that the researchersinvestigate the use of social networking among the female students of Taraba state University and how best it has been used to access and diffuse information on health related matters.A quantitative approach was employed with the help ofquestionnaires administered to the female students in Faculty of Arts And Social Sciences of the Taraba State University, which has the largest population of all other Faculties. The questionnairewas designed and divided into three sections, encompassing section ‘A’Demography, section ‘B’ research questions and section ‘C’ Likert scalequestions. Results revealed that Facebook is the most commonest of all the social networking sites used by Taraba State University female students in accessing information on health related issues. The study further revealed that social networking site is an effective means of communicating health-related matters. The study recommends among other things that, students should employ the use of social networking site to avert the spread of sicknesses and diseases so as to control, manage and avoid becoming avictim.
One of the essential and crucial steps for image understanding, interpretation, analysis and recognition is the image segmentation. This paper advocates a new segme- ntation scheme using morphology on wavelet decomposed images. The present paper provides a good segmentation on natural images and textures by dividing an image into non overlapping regions, which are homogenous in terms of certain features such as texture, spatial coordinates etc. using simple morphological operations. Morphological enhancement technique based on Top Hat transforms enhances the local contrast in this paper. The morphological treatment and followed by Otsu’s threshold overcomes the problem of noise and thin gaps, and also smooth the final regions. The experimental results on four different databases demonstrate the success of the proposed method, compared to many other methods.
Science 1960s, Bangladesh met with regular and enormous labor migration to overseas countries and it is now one of the salient remittance gaining countries in Asia. With a few exceptions, manpower export has been showing increasing trend year by year. Most of the expatriates, who are largely unskilled, are working in the Middle East countries and in the UK and the USA. Like overseas employment, remittances flow has been increasing every year with its increased share in GDP and becomes vital elements for accelerating economic growth in Bangladesh. In this study, In addition to exploring current trend of migration & remittance inflows, we investigate whether there is any significant relationship between inflows of foreign remittances and overseas employment. We also made an effort to identify some barriers that impedes overseas employment and remittance earnings and considering these aspects, we suggest some recommendations that can gear our remittance earnings. Our analysis reveals that the relationship between remittance earning and overseas employment is statistically significant.
In this work we present characterizations of a generalized version of Cambanis family of bivariate distributions. This family contains extensions of the Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern system as special cases. The characterizations are by properties of P(X>Y), regression functions and E(XjX > Y) which were found to be useful in many applications.
The study investigated levels of teachers’ participation in decision-making as correlates of job satisfaction and morale in public senior secondary schools in Delta State. The target population of the study consisted of all public senior secondary schools in Delta State. A sample size of 976 teachers in 36 public senior secondary schools in Delta State were drawn using stratified random sampling technique. The study was a correlational research aimed at determining the relationship among levels of participation in decision-making, job satisfaction and morale of teachers. The researcher therefore, formulated three research questions and three null hypotheses to guide the study. A research instrument titled “Questionnaire on Levels of Participation in Decision-Making, Job Satisfaction and Morale of Teachers” (QLPDMJSMT) was designed by the researcher. The instrument was validated in its face and content value and found reliable at a reliable index of 0.87 using Cronbach Alpha technique.
Lantana camara is the major invasive alien species in Nile River Millennium Park and it is introduced for ornamental purpose to the park intentionally. It reproduces by seed, root and vegetative multiplication, and disseminated by animals particularly birds and human intentional gardening are the major spreading mechanisms. Local communities are highly frustrated by the negative impacts of Lantana camara which includes competing animal feed, biodiversity loss, closing roads, and hiding harmful wild animals like rodents, snakes, mongoose, etc. According to the present study Lantana camara rate and scale of invasion has been increasing at an alarming rate affecting socio-economic status of the community and adverse effect to the biodiversity at large since its introduction. This is because Lantana spreading mechanisms are in multiple ways such as local human activity, by animals particularly birds, wind and its prolific seed production and easy dispersal, and multiplication nature. This, therefore, needs for an integrated, coordinated and multistakeholder and multiple level actions that the community, government and development partners shall participate in the eradication of the invasive plant Lantana camara. This would require the restriction of further spread of Lantana camara into non invaded areas, restriction use of Lantana in gardens and strategically controlling infestations by mechanical mechanism.
Aim: The purpose of this article is to evaluate the role and contribution of procurement function in achieving firm’s competitive advantage within the value chain model whilst also retaining the fundamental principles and philosophy of the Porter’s value chain system. Background: In the increasingly globalised world it is important to conduct business activities that produce a value-based good or service. In a largely globalised commercial environment, the products and services would be homogenous to a large extent. The effects of globalisation have caused substantial changes in the business and commerce operations. The conventional view to conduct business operations has undergone a paradigm change. Hence, it is essential that the fundamental principles that have been established with regards to the conduct of production and service are also revisited in order to assess the need to redefine certain elements of the established business principles.
