We present a case of a 73-year-old male presenting with abdominal pain. He presented with what was suggestive of a small bowel obstruction secondary to an incarcerated inguinal hernia. Subsequent investigation after operative management of the hernia denoted that it was all secondary to acalculous cholecystitis; we thus present our case and pitfalls in management.
Li Qingzhao(李清照,1084-1155) is one of the most excellent and most famous female scholars in Chinese literature history, whose Epilog to Records on Metal and Stone (Jin Shi Lu Houxu,金石录后序), as a rare female autobiography in Chinese ancient literature, has made many unique creative contributions to the development of Chinese biographic literature. As a female autobiography, Epilog to Records on Metal and Stone has covered three identities of Li Qingzhao - a daughter of a noble family, a wife of a civil official and a female scholar - and the self-recognition of the three identities constitutes the triple female perspective of her autobiography. As a lament work, Epilog to Record on Metal and Stone has integrated three dimensional narration spaces - autobiographic facts, lament for her deceased husband; biographical facts, lament for her collected objects; and historical facts, lament for the perished country. The richness, appropriateness and exquisiteness of the discourse structure for three dimensional lament under a triple female perspective have made Epilog to Records on Metal and Stone a milestone in Chinese biographical history. It has not only filled the blank of female authors in ancient Chinese biography, but also provided a narrative spatial model of three dimensional interactions, laying the solid foundation for Li Qingzhao to be a landmark figure in Chinese biographic history.
Today the world is becoming connected. The number of devices that are connected are increasing day by day. Many studies reveal that about 50 billion devices would be connected by 2020 indicating that Internet of things have a very big role to play in the future to come. The applications of IoT are immense which include Energy, Healthcare, and Agriculture to name a few. IoT is an emerging technology that works with the integration of many other present day technologies. There are many threats to the environment today among them urbanization is one. The growing needs of the uraban population across the world are posing a serious threat to the environment. We need to act fast and meet these needs by developing technologies that cater the world problems. One such solution is to develop a smart world. The most important application of IoT is smart cities. Smart city represents one of the most promising, important and difficult Internet of Things (IoT) applications. In the last few years, the smart city concept has played an important role in both scholastic and industry fields, with the advancement and operation of various middleware platforms and IoT-based infrastructures. This paper talks about the role of IoT in developing smart cities for a smarter world.
Earthquakes are one of the most destructive of natural hazards. Earthquake occurs due to sudden transient motion of the ground as a result of release of energy in a matter of few seconds. These recent events remind us of the vulnerability of our society to natural hazards. The protection of civil structures, including material content and human occupants is, without doubt, a worldwide priority. The challenge of structural engineers is to develop safer civil structures to better withstand these natural hazards. In the present study reinforced concrete moment resisting frame building of G+20 are considered. The building is considered to be located in the seismic zone (v) and intended for commercial purpose. Model-I Building without dampers, Model-II –Building with dampers. The building of G+20 has been modeled by providing with and without damper providing all parameters using S A P 2 0 0 0 software. Results show that using fluid viscous dampers to building can effectively reduce the building responses by selecting optimum damping coefficient i.e. when the building is connected to the fluid viscous dampers (FVD) can control both displacements and accelerations of the building. Further damper at appropriate locations can significantly reduce the earthquake response.
The simultaneous analyses of NMP and DMAc in synthetic fibers that have been regulated recently due to their human hazard properties were studied by both a conventional GC-MS method and a thermal desorption(TD)-GC-MS method that uses Py-GC-MS instrument using the thermal desorption function. Method validation characteristics such as linearity, precision of peak area and retention time, limit of quantification on their determination using a new TD-GC-MS method were found to be acceptable according to the well-recognized method validation guidelines and the current regulation limit. Recovery ratios of DMAc from the spiked synthetic fibers were estimated to be 95.2% to 97.1% with Soxhlet extraction using methanol as measured by GC-MS. Residual amounts of NMP and DMAc in commercial meta-aramid, polyester, and spandex fibers were measured by and GC-MS and TD-GC-MS, respectively and showed a good correlation between two methods with the ratio of 85.5% to 119%. Results of this study suggested that the TD-GC-MS analysis can provide both a good screening and a quick determination of NMP and DMAc in synthetic fibers without any solvent extraction of fiber samples that is a routine and time consuming pretreatment in the conventional GC-MS analysis.
The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of drive swing on multiple functional wear wearing in golf. The subjects were 6 men (22.67±0.82yrs, 175.42±3.42cm, 78.75±4.78kg), who had career each with at least 8 years golf experience with right-hander. For kinematical analysis, this study used equipments with 7 motion capture cameras (300Hz) and analysis program (Nexus 1.5). The total time of the club head, displacement magnitude of the COM and swing plane were compared of according to functional wear wearing and non-wearing during golf drive swing. The results of the study are as follows. The total time of the club on wearing (2.18±0.06sec) was faster than non-wearing (2.52±0.15sec). Displacement magnitude of the COM on wearing (4.06±0.67cm) was shorter than non-wearing (5.79±0.72cm). Also, swing plane was found to be significantly different of 3 phase excepted BST-DS (back swing top - down swing) phase. AD-BST (address - back swing top) phase on wearing (13.86±3.08cm) decrease more than nonwearing (20.82±3.99cm), DS-IP (down swing – impact) phase on wearing (6.25±1.35cm) decrease more than non-wearing (7.18±1.52cm) and IP – FT (impact – follow though) phase on wearing (7.93±2.09cm) decrease more than non-wearing (9.68±2.02cm). The multiple functional wear wearing was contribution to come close for one-plane, a long with consistency and accuracy on golf drive swing.
A numerical study was performed to provide information about the temperature distribution of three dimensional cylindrical fin in steady state and homogeneous material properties. A brief literature review shows that much of work on fins has been carried out analytically and numerically in one dimensional and two dimensional conditions. This study is concerned about the three dimensional temperature distributions on a cylindrical fin, optimum dimensions and heat transfer from the fin, the fin efficiency and fin effectiveness of the cylindrical fin when fin base was maintained at a constant temperature. The necessary equations are solved by finite difference method and iteration method using FORTRAN code. The whole investigation was done using different material and different dimensional fins to find out the optimum effectiveness and efficiency for predefined condition.
Nurse Call System is an essential tool for the present time hospitals. In this research work a wireless nurse call system with webserver is designed, developed and implemented. This system helps admitted patients in hospitals. Patient can call a nurse or patient care assistant (PCA) for help. This system is also capable to generate emergency alarm. When a patient calls a nurse the system updates the status on webserver that a patient from specific room number is calling. Each device has a unique identification number in the system. On web nurse can see the room number and time when the patient has called. In order to turn off the call nurse presses the attendance button. All the nodes transmit data to a base node and base node updates the data to webserver. LAN connected other PC can view the call using any browser or any nurse can view the call using her cell phone through Wi-Fi. Each cell phone acts as a pager. Nurse can be notified of a call on the run.
To ensure stability of the banking sector at the international level, the Basel Committee has established prudential regulation. The main objective of this article is to study the effectiveness of this regulation by analyzing the relationship between risk and the level of bank capital. The model developed by Shrieves and Dahl (1992) provides a solid framework and adequate analysis to the objectives of the research. Thus, it is modified and tested empirically on a sample of 255 banks of the G8 countries using the 2SLS method (the interrelation between risk and capital). The results show a positive relationship between risk taking and capital level of banks studied. Overall, a strict regulatory environment improves the solvency of banks with a difference in behaviour between undercapitalized banks and well-capitalized banks.
This paper aims to implement a new test for the integrated model by using the theory of the probability tree diagram. This test is implemented because it gives more accurate results compared with the previous test that was implemented to test the integrated model by using the simple random sampling (SRS) probability theory. So this paper will provide more accurate results, which will increase the confidence of systems builders in the integrated model.
