This paper presents the results of physico-chemical parameter data and water quality index used to assess the groundwater quality around Olusosun and Solus dumpsites in Lagos southwest, Nigeria. Twenty (20) water samples each were collected in wells and boreholes around these two dumpsites, once in two months consecutively for two years. The parameters determined include pH, acidity, alkalinity, conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness (TH), Cl-, SO42-, NO3- and PO43- and heavy metals: Pb, Ni, Cd, Zn, Cu, Fe, Mg, Ca, Na and K using standard analytical methods. Descriptive statistics and correlation coefficient were carried out on the data generated. There is strong correlation at p < 0.05 in some of the parameters such as TDS versus EC (r = 0.95), TDS versus TS (r = 0.90), TH versus acidity (r = 0.73) in Olusosun while TDS versus EC (r = 0.93), TDS versus acidity (r = 0.82), TH versus alkalinity (r = 0.77) in Solus, suggesting common source. However, very weak chemical associations (r < 0.30) were observed in majority of the quality parameters particularly anions and trace metals, indicating multiple anthropogenic sources.
Insider trading is the negotiation in stock market misusing privileged information by people who are in exclusive position to access to such information, should be informed the market as a "relevant fact", except in an ongoing operation, on which a legitimate interest to keep reserved is held. They are called corporate insiders. The determination of the legal system of the international financial operations with privileged information presents certain difficulties, due the absence of a common regulation, also in the European Union.
The study examined the perceptions of people about contemporary family and responsible parenting using a descriptive survey design. The opinions of two hundred randomly selected participants made up of one hundred (100) males and one hundred (100) females were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. A total of four churches from the mainland area of Lagos State was the population of the study. Four research questions were raised. Findings indicated that more of the respondents are in support of introducing courtship into the marriage institution. 100% of the respondents agree that the husband is the head of the family. Respondents also indicated their opinions about responsible parenting. 100% disagree that the husband’s career is more important than the family. They also agree that they will allow their children marry from other tribes. 90% agreed, while 10% disagreed. The respondents also indicated their opinion on same-sex-marriage. 100% will not recognize or permit this. Discussions were drawn from the findings, and recommendations were made. It was recommended that the sanctity of the marriage institution be upheld and the children brought up by both parents.
Evasion from apoptosis by aberrations of apoptotic regulatory factors has been found to cause accumulation of neoplastic cells in various tumours. Survivin, an inhibitor of apoptosis protein localizes to the nucleus as well as in the cytoplasm depending on its function such as cell division and inhibiting apoptosis. The regulation of Survivin seems to be linked to p53, a tumour suppressor gene. Though there are studies showing the role of p53 and Survivin in oral carcinogenesis, but the field of odontogenic tumours yet needs to be explored. The aim of this study was to correlate the expression of p53 and Survivin in normal tissues (tooth germ) and Ameloblastoma as well as to assess differential localization of Survivin. Qualitative and quantitative assessment of immunexpression of p53 and Survivin (nuclear and cytoplasmic) was evaluated in a total of 35 cases which included 10 tooth germs and 25 Ameloblastoma. The expression levels of p53 and nuclear Survivin were significantly higher in Ameloblastoma quantitatively but there was no significant correlation between p53 and cytoplasmic expression of Survivin. There was up-regulation of both p53 and Survivin in Ameloblastoma. This study highlights the nuclear and cytoplasmic expression of Survivin and p53 in tumorigenesis of Ameloblastoma.
The Abrahamic faiths also referred to as Abrahamic religions, consist of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. These religions commonly lay claim to the fact that they all originated from Abraham. They therefore contest that they are directly linked to Abraham. The earliest of the Abrahamic faiths is Judaism, closely followed by Christianity, while the most recent is Islam. The study attempts to examine the importance of the city of Jerusalem to the Abrahamic faiths. To a large extent they all claim some level of relationship with Jerusalem. It is the aim of this study to examine how their common relationship with Jerusalem can engender inter-faith dialogue and unity which stands out as one the major concerns in the world today. The study employed historical and sociological methodology in its investigation. It is recommended that the Abrahamic faiths should appreciate the fact that their relationship with Jerusalem should be explored as a formidable panacea for establishing unity and inter-faith dialogue. The city of Jerusalem should be seen as a symbol of unity rather than that of hatred, war and morbid enmity.
Background: Malaria is a major public health problem in worldwide and causes high morbidity and mortality. Studying its prevalence is necessary to implement effective control measures. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of malaria in Arba Minch hospital, Ethiopia. Method: A cross sectional study was conducted from January to April, 2010. A well designed and structured questionnaire and Laboratory investigation were used to collect data. Data was processed and analyzed with SPSS version16.0. Results: A total of 400 patients clinically suspected to have malaria were examined with overall prevalence of malaria was 7% (28 malaria cases out of 400 patients) of which 18 (64.3%) were positive for Plasmodium falciparum and 7 (25%) for Plasmodium vivax; the remaining 3 (10.7%) showed mixed infections of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. Males 16 (4%) were more infected than females 12 (3%). Gender had statistically significant association with malaria infection (p<0.005). All age groups were infected but high prevalence observed in age groups 15–19, followed by 20–29 years old. Conclusion: This study showed that high prevalence of malaria was observed. Therefore health professionals and administra- tors have to focus on giving health education on prevention and control of malaria.
Objectives: To evaluate the effect of irradiation time on the Vickers hardness value of two bulk-fill resin-based composites. Methods: Vickers hardness (HV) of nano-hybrid resin-based composites (RBCs) containing a novel monomer composition based on tricyclodecane– urethane structure (TCD-urethane) [Venus Diamond Bulk Fill, Hearus Kulzer, Germany] compared to conventionally formulated nano-hybrid RBCs [TetricEvo- Ceram Bulk Fill, IvoclarVivadent] for 20 and 40 second using (Elipar S10, 3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA). Results: The highest hardness value was shown in Bulk Fill 60 sec (HV= 65.15 2.22), while the lowest was observed in Bulk Fill TetricEvo Ceram 40 sec (HV= 61.03 1.63). There is no significant increase in Hardness value during irradiation time for both Bulk Fill Venus Diamond (p=0.456), and Bulk Fill TetricEvo Ceram (p=0.288). Conclusion: The mode of polymerization and the light-curing time did not affect on the hardness value of the nanofilled composite resin.
The operation of a particular component in deteriorating condition will lead to a high machine downtime. This is due to the failure of component at unexpected time. As a result it will increase cost of maintenance and production lost. One of the solutions to this matter is to use Preventive Maintenance (PM). In industries, Preventive Maintenance (PM) is not a new practice to minimize the sudden breakdown of production machine. PM will be performed at predetermine intervals to provide a balance between failure cost and component utilization (aging). Therefore, the objective of this paper is to introduce the preventive maintenance strategy for determining an optimal replacement time for component that deteriorates over time. In this thesis we consider a particular type of machine (Gear Motor 7.5 KW.) from Holcim Bangladesh ltd. where machines are subject to maintenance. To maximize the benefit from operating the machine two replacement models are used. Among them, one model is used to determine an optimal replacement policy which tells us, when equipment reaches a particular age, whether or not it should be replaced or continue to be operated to minimize the total operating cost. Another model is used to determine the optimal interval between the preventive replacements to minimize the total cost and to operate the machine to the time which is determined by first model. We have determined to find the preventive replacement cost and also the maximum time at which we can use the machine without replacing it. Some time it is more economical to replace the machine rather than maintenance it. So it is most important to find out the age at which the replacement will be most economical to replace rather than maintenance.
Magazine is an information source that is part of media industry. Moreover, magazine is also acts as an entertainment source for its readers. One of the impacts of the technological development is the transition from printed magazine to digital magazine. The development of technology creates a revolution in publishing industry, for instance this phenomenon changes the consumption habit of printed publication, which is currently in its fully mature state today. This transition give impacts to its readers. One of the examples are the digital culture from the visual point of view. In this work, we focus our observation of such a culture transition from the visual point a view on a magazine. A study case that is used in this work is from Indonesia life style magazine. This magazine is considered as one of the women magazines that have the longest history in Indonesia. A qualitative method and semi quantitative method that describes the digital culture transition from the digital culture view that occurs on both printed and digital version magazine is used in this work. Such a technological transition influences the value of the magazine with respect to its readers – Indonesian women. Media is battlefield of culture. Most of the content of the contemporary culture war is related to the image cultivated by the mass media. This struggle goes beyond morality and values, sometimes focus on the involvement of our popular media representations and the evidence of lessons learned about community media.
