For several reasons, current urban development in Dar es Salaam City has not adhered to requirements of both general and detailed planning schemes. This in turn has encouraged local authorities and other stakeholders to produce planning outputs using a Strategic Urban Development Planning (SUDP) process. The methodology involved appraising a ward environmental profile; holding a stakeholders’ consultative workshop and analysing the issues identified. Analysis has shown that, under the current urban development diversities in terms of interests and priorities, the befitting output of an urban planning process cannot be a mere future land use map. It is inclined to be a package of well-thought outputs forming an acceptable future land use plan. The ability to produce an acceptable future land use plan based on core tenets of SUDP is a strenghth of same. This defeats earlier claims of SUPD weaknesses related to future land use and urban development control.
Studies to ascertain levels of erythrocyte glutathione S-transferase (Ery-GST) activity of non-malarious and malarious male participants of HbAA, HbAS and HbSS erythrocyte genotypes treated with pyrimethamine/sulphadoxine mixture and quinine were carried out. Incubation of erythrocytes with 1-chloro-2, 4-dinitrobenzene (CDNB) caused quantitative conjugation of reduced glutathione (GSH) to produce S-(2, 4-dinitrophenyl) glutathione, which formed the bases for the measurement of Ery-GST activity using a spectrophotometer. Blood samples were drawn from treated non-malarious and malarious participants at time intervals of 0, 3, 6 and 18 h and measured for Ery-GST activity. The control values of Ery-GST activity of non-malarious and malarious participants were within the ranges of 3.27 ± 0.13 – 12.50 ± 1.58 IU/gHb and 2.75 ± 0.16 – 12.21 ± 1.20 IU/gHb respectively. Ery-GST activity of malarious participants was significantly (p< 0.05) lower than that of the malarious participants, except that of parasitized HbSS erythrocytes. Generally, Ery-GST activities in the presence of the two antimalarials exhibited a biphasic profile. The first phase showed decreasing levels of Ery-GST activity at t < 6 h following the administration of pyrimethamine/sulphadoxine mixture and quinine to the non-malarious and malarious participants. This paper reports theoretical results obtained in the process of making dictionaries of the spiritual and material culture lexis of an indigenous small-numbered people of the North – the Saami. The article shows that such dictionaries are of a new type for Saami lexicography, as they bring to the forefront the epistemological function of a dictionary, which is due to the specificity of its user, who is the bearer of the Saami culture but has no command of the Saami language. It discusses the specific character of the word list and definitions of the Kola Saami language dictionary, and the principles of making such dictionaries (word selection, thematic belonging, specificity). It is shown that the word list of such dictionaries reflects the linguistic world image of indigenous smallnumbered people and that its definitions include a culturological commentary commensurate with people’s understanding of the world around them, their living practices and their everyday life experiences. It is also shown that the dictionaries of the Kola Saami language do not fit the exact traditional classification of dictionaries: in this case the distinctions between linguistic/encyclopaedic and linguo culturological/linguistic country-related is blurred.
Abstract- In mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs), providing quality of service is more challenging than wired networks, because of multi hop communication, node connectivity and lack of central co-ordination. Mobile ad-hoc networks need sure distinctive characteristics which might cause difficulties providing QoS in such network. Coming up with of multi constrained QoS routing protocols remains troublesome. As a result of routing protocols must satisfy the numerous QoS metrics at a time. Genetic algorithm based routing protocol will give the solution for multi constrained QoS routing problem. In existing genetic algorithm based routing, achieving energy efficiency is the major drawback. To overcome this drawback, in this paper, we have proposed genetic algorithm based energy efficient QoS routing for MANET. Proposed GA based routing algorithm discovered the shortest path from source to destination, which can consumes less energy compare to existing algorithms. In this paper TCP,CBR and video sources are applied at a time then energy consumption of proposed algorithm is compared with existing normal GA based and AOMDV. Simulation results show that proposed algorithm consumes less energy towards given scenario. Simulations are performed in NS-2.
In order to face the grand challenge of characterizing soft and light armour material system shaving polymers and shear thickening fluids under impacts at high strain rates lead to design and development of this particular SHPB set up. The developed set up is designed for a maximum firing pressure of 300 bar of nitrogen gas and it comprises automated gas filling and firing, striker bar velocity recording and data acquisition system. Pressure bars are made of titanium alloy due to its high yield strength and reasonably lower density which could protect plastic deformation, wave dispersion and reduces impedance mismatch with the intended soft specimens, unlike maraging steel bars. The maximum stresses on the critical parts of the setup are crosschecked with simulation results and compared with corresponding yield strengths. Velocitypressure calibration of the developed setup shows higher velocities can be achieved at any particular pressure, when it is compared with the existing public domain velocity calibration of SHPB setup.
In a forthcoming systematic treatment of Afghanistan species of Rhaponticoides, herbarium collections were examined, and as a result, increased the number species of the genus to 3 spp. for Afghanistan. Morphologically, the species of the genus are classified into three subsections: Iranicae (1 spp.), Ruthenicae (1 spp.) and Turkestanicae (1 spp.) in Afghanistan. Two new combinations are proposed for Centaurea gerhardii and C. turkestanica, and lectotype is designated for R. turkestanica. Finally, a first key of the Rhaponticoides species in Afghanistan is presented here.
It has always been the practice in Nigeria’s unstable party democracy for people to defect to other parties with the intention to secure nominations from the party, and for a good number of them to return after elections to join the winning party to vie for positions in the government. The recent massive party defections by political gladiators in Nigeria were symbolic as it was the members of the ruling party that defected to opposition party and on a non election period. This paper examined the implications of this on democracy in Nigeria. It observed that this particular defection would help build strong opposition that would create a balance in the country’s democracy by checking the excesses of the ruling party at any time. It also noted that party defections are integral part of democratic processes. However, it argued that since the present defections are not driven by fundamental ideological consideration, there is still a tendency that the opposition would still crumble in no distant time especially if the motive (which is to stop the incumbent president) is not achieved or even after the struggle as the bond cannot be strong outside ideology. The paper relied on content analysis and adopted abstractions from elite theory. It observed that lack of ideology and internal party democracy appears to have ignited the prevailing squabbles that orchestrated the recent exodus. The paper recommended social re-engineering, reorientation and mobilization that is directed towards inculcation of new values and the essence of entrenching acceptable philosophy in Nigeria’s party system.
A survey of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) genotypes in 25 commercial broiler flocks of various ages (20-35 days) raised in Al-Behera and Kafr-Elsheikh governorates and suffering from respiratory symptoms and pathological changes in kidney associated with high mortality rate. All flocks were vaccinated against IB disease. Tissue samples (trachea, lung and kidney) were collected aseptically from these flocks. Then virus propagation was performed in embryonated SPF chicken eggs via allantoic sac inoculation. Results of virus isolation trails from the collected organs revealed 15 IBV isolates (60%) out of 25 flocks as judged by antigen detection in CAMs by the AGPT against reference IBV Beaudette antiserum after 2-5 chicken embryo serial passages. However, three of 15 IBV isolates were also positive by the slide HA test. Moreover, 5 flocks gave positive slide HA test and negative by the AGPT. The other 5 flocks gave negative slide HA test and AGPT. Then selected ten IBV field isolated strains in this study were characterized by RT-PCR (all of ten selected isolates are positive for S1 gene), and then sequence analysis of partial S1 spike glycoprotein gene of seven IBV field isolates in this study (11, 15, 21, 13, 19, 22, 24) were made. The seven IBV field isolates showed 97% to 98.3 % and 96.7% to 98.3% nucleotide sequence identity to IBV-CU-2-SP1 and Eg/12120s/2012 strain (variant 2 like strain), respectively.
ESBL group of organisms are beta lactamase enzyme producing organisms capable of breaking the beta lactam ring in antibiotics hence are resistant to usually cephalosporins and few other antibiotics. In these E.coli is the most common bacteria that lives in gut harmlessly but causes Urinary tract infection and in severe cases blood poisoning, septicemia or bacteremia leading to serious sepsis. When not treated it leads to inflammation of body parts, blood clots, blocking oxygen supply and ultimately causing death. In present study report a 51 years old Indian tourist patient was admitted in a Wake Med Health hospital at USA, with symptoms of UTI.In hospital she was diagnosed with ESBL E.coliUTI infection with>100,000 colonies /ml and blood culture showed positive result. In this case the Sepsiswas resulted as secondary infection. She even suffered with chronic anemia. The previous medical history of subject showed several risk factors for acquisition of infection. These include elder age, female gender,chronic anemia, recent hospitalization, surgical procedure (due to hysterectomy), intravenous catheterization, intensive careand prolonged usage of high potency antibiotics.All these factors are established as predictive and prognostic risk factors for acquisition of infection and also results in colonization of organism.
Successful Artificial Insemination (AI) requires that humans detect the receptive phase of oestrus. There are various ways to detect oestrus in cattle, and behavior plays a key role in each method. The aim of this study was to detect different behaviors using time sampling method in 5-minute intervals and analyzed. Given over a period of 1 week (24 hours) in 34 dairy cows of LLFG Iden recorded these behaviors, in which 11 cows were observed in oestrus. The behavior has been differentiated as follows: feeding, resting and lying including rumination, standing on the walkways or the cubicles and standing rumination, including the duration of milking. The activities presented as percentages of the daily sum shows that the largest changes in the „standing“ of the cows are observed. For standing in the time without oestrus 30 % of the day were used. In oestrus increased it to an average of 47 % of the day. The duration of the externally visible oestrus of cows averaged 944 minutes per day, with a very high variability could be determined.
