The capacity of controlling various electrical and electronics devices in a wireless and remote fashion has provided a great convenience to many people in life. Through a wireless distant control system, people can do remote operation without directly accessing the host of home appliances like fan, lamp, TV, washing machines and others. Pocket switch is one of these types of system which we can use to control home appliances smartly from anywhere. The main objective of this work is to make such a system which controls the home appliances remotely using Web service and FM technology from a mobile phone. This paper discusses two methods of controlling home appliances. The first one is web service based where server will generate a command to the controller computer and the second one is FM network based where server will synthesize the SMS in to speech.
Face detection is very important nowadays because of increasing demand of security in society. It has become inseparable part of machine vision, biometric researches, pattern recognition and video surveillance. In this paper, we propose to detect face from image with varying lighting condition and complex background. This method relies on a two step process. First, we detect human skin regions. The detection of facial features from image is on the basis of pixel measurement. This is done by the conversion of RGB image into the YCbCr color space using proposed algorithm in order to observe the human face regions. This operation needs for the change of color image into gray scale image and also the removal of non face object. Then we construct eye and mouth maps in order to work on the triangle relationship between them. The result works well on wide range of facial variation in color, position, scale and orientation with photo collection including both indoors and outdoors.
This study was carried out at Bauchi (10˚19’N; 09˚50’E; Elevation 520 m), Nigeria, and it was the first of its kind in the country. Number of foraging bees returning to the hive was recorded for five minutes, at intervals of 30 minutes, and used as an indicator of flight activity. Temperature, light intensity and relative humidity were recorded concurrently. Two peaks offlight activity (one just before sunrise and the other just before sunset), separated by a period of very low activity, were observed in the dry season. However, in the rainy season flight activity was high throughout the day, declining progressively towards sunset. Though there was no significant correlation (P>0.05) between flight activity and temperature at 25˚C, aninverse and highly significant correlation (r=-0.75; P<0.01) was found between them at 35˚C. Similarly, an inverse and highly significant correlation (r=-0.87; P<0.001) was observed between flight activity and light intensity. No correlation (r = 0.275; P = 0.441) was found between flight activity and relative humidity. The observed differences in flight activity appeared to be due to environmental factors such as temperature, light intensity and, mostimportantly, availability of forage rather than the genetic characteristics of the bee.
The objective of this research was to analyse repercussions on instructional design and teaching when integrating mobile devices with virtual learning environments. The study was conducted in a graduate program, at a university in Mexico offering distance programs. The methodology followed was exploratory and descriptive, conducting open interviews with faculty, program directors, and educational and innovation technology directors to explore two units of analysis: mobile learning devices and virtual environments. From the results obtained, it became evident that working with mobile devices in virtual environments has repercussions at different levels: organizational, structural, social, technological, ways of thinking and actions. These results contribute information concerning the integration of new generation devices to virtual environments and may lead to future studies.
India has the second largest tribal population in world. Tribal people, scheduled castes and tribes constitute the poor and weakest section of India’s population. Orissa is the 9th largest State with an area of 155,707 km2, and 11th largest in terms of population with 41.94 million people, about 3.47 percent of India‟s population, as per the provisional estimates of 2011 census. In the development of the tribal areas, the cooperatives, of late, have been playing an important role, provision of credit, marketing and procurement of tribal produce, distribution of agricultural inputs, fertilizer, consumer goods etc, are all under taken by the cooperatives in tribal areas. The objective of this paper is to critically review major tribal policies, programmes and an impact study on the socioeconomic status of the tribal’s resulting from the service rendered by the LAMPS in Odisha. The paper also tries to review various methods i. e the quantative measurement and qualitative assessment of the services rendered by the LAMPS, the pattern of financing to the tribal’s and conducting an impact study on the economic status of the tribal’s resulting from the service rendered by the LAMPS in Mayurbhanj district in Odisha.
In Sri Lanka, there is not much evidence linked to stock split announcements and stock prices behaviour available to investors. This study, scrutinizes the stock price response to stock split declaration and a test of market efficiency in Colombo Stock exchange (CSE) by using a sample of 64 events (52 companies) from 14 different sectors of the emerging market during the period 2009 to 2012. Standard event study methodology is employed to find the results. The empirical results show that average abnormal return (1.46%) is statistically significant at 5% level on the stock split announcement day. This study finds that stock splits have a significant signal and information content in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). On average, market positively reacts significantly to the announcement. Further, the large negative cumulative average abnormal return (-6%) is observed during the period of (0, 10). This results support the semi- strong form efficient market hypothesis for the sample companies within the study period since stock prices adjust so fast to public information that investor can not earn an abnormal return by trading in the stocks following the stock split announcement day.
Grid computing, one of the most trendy phrase used in IT, is emerging vastly distributed computational paradigm. A computational grid provides a collaborative environment of the hefty number of resources capable to do high computing performance to reach the common goal. Grid computing can be called as super virtual computer, it ensemble large scale geographically distributed heterogeneous resources. Resource allocation is a key element in the grid computing and grid resource may leave at anytime from grid environment. Despite a number of benefits in grid computing, still resource allocation is a challenging task in the grid. This work investigates to maximize the profits by analyzing how the tasks are allocated to grid resources effectively according to quality of service parameter and gratifying user requisition. A fusion of SS-GA algorithm has introduced to answer the above raised question about the resource allocation problem based on grid user requisition. The swift uses genetic algorithms heuristic functions and makes an effective resource allocation process in grid environment. The result of proposed fusion of SS-GA algorithm ameliorates the grid resource allocation.
The traditional platforms for implementing hearing aid algorithms have been application specific integrated circuits (ASIC) and some general purpose DSP chips. One of the most important issues involved in hearing aid design is power consumption, i.e., battery life. This paper introduces an alternative method for implementing hearing aid algorithms by using truncated-matrix multipliers. These designs can offer a significant reduction in power consumption and chip area. However, the approach can often increase computational error but it can be partially compensated for by introducing a method of coefficient shifting of the filter weights. This latter approach significantly reduces the computational error resulting in improved system performance.
