Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) is a set of painful conditions that involve the masticatory muscles, Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), and/or associated orofacial structures. Some studies have established that patients with TMD present postural alterations. Objective: To assess Dynamic Postural Balance (DPB) in patients with Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) compared to a control group at the Stomatology Clinic of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP). Materials and methods: Forty patients with TMD were tested, diagnosed by a standardized researcher with DC/TMD; 75% female average aged 27.7±9.5 and 40 controls without TMD, paired by age and sex without significant differences in body mass index (BMI) between groups (p>.05). The 80 patients were tested with the Biodex® Stability System of the Physiotherapy School of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) by a trained researcher. Comparison of the DPB between groups results was performed by the Student’s T-test, significance <.05. Results: The Dynamic Postural Balance of patients with TMD resulted similar as the control ones. Descriptively, the Overall Index was slower in patients with TMD (1.66±.94 vs. 1.83±1.27), as well as the Anterior-Posterior Index (1.20±.73 vs. 1.26±.83), the Medial-Lateral Index (.92±.45 vs. 1.05±.84), and the permanence time in the optimum balance zone (95.62 vs. 93.65), without statistically significant differences in the three indices (p>0.05).Conclusion: The Dynamic Postural Balance of patients with TMD is equal as the control ones
Three plants, parts used, by the Ogiek community as medicines were collected from Marioshoni in the Mau Forest Complex in the Rift Valley of Kenya, idenfied at the National Museums in Nairobi;S. biflora Voucher No.AO/08/12/12/2006 L. javanica O/015/NMK/06/12/2007 T. asiatica Voucher No. AO/017/NMK/04/07/2007. Each plant species was steam distilled individually. All yielded oils that were separately assayed against some known pathogens that inflict maladies in humans. The two species showed some markable antimicrobial activities for instance, S. biflora was effective against S. aureus, K. pneumoniae and E. coli including all their drug resistant strains. The essential oils from all the three plant species possessed activities against all the strains of S. aureus, different zones of inhibitions L. javanica is amongst other medicinal essential oils that have been studied elsewhere and proved useful medically. However, S. biflora which has varied activities when screened in the laboratory in vitro has not been studied exhaustively. The plant oil extracts gave promising results against both Gram-ve and Gram +ve bacteria. T. asiatica showed good activities against the bacteria and some known pathogenic fungi Further studies on wet bench chemistry and GC showed known classes of compounds which are of known medicinal values were present. It was recommended that further studies be done to ascertain if they can be used as phytomedicine or as components of current allopathic drugs.
The study was conducted on the species composition and percentage contribution of sharks and rays from two landing centers (Fishery ghat, Chittagong and BFDC fish harbour, Cox’s Bazar) during 2011-2012 fiscal years. A total 10 species of sharks belonging to 3 families and 14 species of rays belonging to 8 families were recorded. Total landings of sharks and rays by weight were 382.67 MT of which 136.45 MT was sharks and 246.22 MT of rays. A total 479661number of sharks and rays were landed of which 449133 were sharks and 30528 were rays but contribution of sharks and rays were 35.66% and 64.34% respectively by weight. The highest landing was 70.94 MT in the month of October, 2011 and lowest landing was 6.05 MT in the month of January, 2012. The highest landing of shark species was Scoliodon laticaudus 84.52 MT (22.09%) and lowest was Carcharhinus sorrah 0.01MT and the maximum and minimum landing of rays species were Himantura uarnak 164.42MT (42.97%) and Aetobatus narinari 0.03% MT respectively.
The study aimed to determine the Microbial and Spectroscopic Elemental Composition of Edible Clams (Mercenaria mercenaria) in Bahrain. Specifically, it determined the elemental composition and their concentrations was compared with the normal composition of daily serving of clams. The determination on the presence of microbes was also done and microbes present were identified. Clams samples were collected along the seashore of Tubli in the Kingdom of Bahrain where they are abundantly found. The collected clams were transported to the Biochemistry laboratory of the College of Medicine of AMA – International University of Bahrain for analysis. The spectrophotometer was used to determine the elemental composition which were limited to the analysis of calcium, chlorides, magnesium, sodium, iron and zinc. Results show that the elemental composition of the clam on calcium, magnesium, sodium and chloride were found to contain higher composition as compared to the normal elements found on daily serving of clams which may be due to the nature of substrate found in the area where the edible clams were collected while the composition of potassium, copper and iron was found to be lower than the normal elemental component of daily serving of clams which means that these elements are not that much in the area where the clam samples were collected considering that clams are considered scavengers. Lastly, the analysis on zinc was found to have same concentration when compared to the normal elemental composition on clams. This indicates that chlorides in the area where the samples were collected are minimal knowing that chloride is one of the major inorganic anions present in water and sewage which is responsible on the salty taste produced by chloride concentration and depends upon the chemical composition of water. The microbial test results show that the collected clams were contaminated with fecal coliforms and cocci coliforms so proper handling and cooking it properly is one
The purpose of this paper is to examine organizational change initiatives that have led to misleading job expectations. Due to scarce resources, employees are overwhelmed with unrealistic work expectations, which have led to job dissatisfaction in the workplace. Unfortunately, employees are unable to make swift career changes which eventually lead to frustration. In so doing, with limited resources, the average individual can be a part of the Multi- Level Marketing (MLM) industry that has experienced financial growth throughout the years despite the economic recession. At the end, a determination will conclude the legitimacy of the MLM industry and how it has made an impact on those who have reached financial freedom. Also, recommendations will be made to equip those who are interested in being part of the growing MLM industry.
The purpose of this article was to present the importance of using public relations to communicate the intent and application of corporate sustainability by organizations that are involved in this practice. Since there are three areas that corporate sustainability is involved with, public relations need involve all of them. The areas are ecological, sociology- ical, and corporate/business. The CEOs of organizations responsible for the strategic formulation and application of public relations need to have the appropriate vision in order to merge the target of public relations with the ever-changing internal and external environment of the organization. Public Relations must be embraced by organizations that follow the corporate sustainability model. From an internal/external perspective, stakeholders, employees, and the public must communicate effectively, efficiently, and on a timely basis in order to enhance their positive interaction and attain the desired goals.
The study investigates the relationship between three different types of unemployment and urban self-employment in China. In spite of numerous studies on factors driving entrepreneurship and self-employment, previous literature has not shed a consistent light on the association between unemployment and self-employment. This study therefore drills down to three different types of unemployment—retirement resignation, and layoff to further conduct this investigation. Data from the China Labor Statistical Yearbooks are used. A panel data model is adopted to examine three different unemployment forces for self-employment propensity—retirement propensity, resignation propensity, and layoff propensity among the unemployed. We found that retirement and resignation among those unemployed are associated with self-employment rate growth, while the effect of those laid-off is unclear. The study interpreted the findings and indicated research limitations and future research directions.
pH and oxidation reduction potential (ORP) values of waters in original positions (in-situ) were estimated using analytical data on deep groundwaters and hot spring waters at 67 points in Japan. A predominant redox reaction at each point was thermodynamically analysed on the basis of the Gibbs reaction energy. The results showed that a redox reaction of iron sulphide / sulphate ion was estimated to be predominant at many points, and that in a pH-ORP diagram, most of the in-situ pH and ORP estimates were on an equilibrium curve between pyrite and sulphate ion. It is suggested that the in-situ groundwaters in the Tertiary sedimentary rocks in Japan could be governed with the redox reaction of the iron sulphide / sulphate ion.
