This research focuses on the influence of western films on students’ dressing pattern at Taraba State University, Jalingo. The study explores fashion trends among students of the institution and finds that styles like hip hop/hippies, corporate/cocktail and make up/hairstyle, which are common in American films, are the most imitated forms/styles of dressing by the students. Incidentally, such dressing patterns are considered an aberration in the African society. Survey method was used to gather data for the study in which 220 questionnaire copies were administered to the students of the university across all levels of study. Findings of this research seem to suggest a correlation between students’ exposure to western films and their choice of dressing, even though this postulate is not statistically tested in the study. The study recommends proper parenting and counseling, uncompromising religious teaching and strict implementation of dress code by tertiary institutions as panacea to the social challenge.
Running through the densely populated urban areas railway has an inherent weakness of generating congestions at the at-grade crossings or level crossings (LC). It is responsible for economic losses, emission of harmful gases, and increase in accident risks for roadway traffic. Realizing these effects many of the developed countries have adopted various solutions starting from automatic gates installation to grade separation. However, developing countries have either failed to address the congestion problems caused by LCs, or yet to adopt appropriate measures to counteract them. Dhaka, the most densely populated megacity of the world has 42 level crossings in the city. This study reveals the economic losses, environmental impact and safety hazard of the busiest 7.15 kilometer railway corridor which has six level crossings. Primary field data have been utilized to find the delays and emission incurred by individual LC using available methods with slight modifications. Yearly economic losses incurred by studied LCs are estimated to be 32.95 million USD. With 1,412,128 kilograms of harmful gases (volatile organic compound, NOx and CO) emitted in a year, these LCs pose serious threats to the public health of the surrounding neighborhoods. Hazardous locations have been identified by assigning Hazard Index values. In light of these results, suitable solutions have been proposed to reduce congestion at the level crossings, and to enhance public health and roadway safety.
This paper proposes and presents a method for the estimation of approval probabilities of new drug or product. The proposed method assumes that three evaluation communities are used to assess and evaluate the quality of a new drug or product and that the evaluation is done by the committees in three period phased clinical trials of the drug product using matched samples of subjects at each phase. Estimates of absolute and conditional approval probabilities by various combination evaluation committees at each phase of clinical trials are provided. Test statistics are also developed testing desired hypothesis at each of the phased clinical trials. The proposed method is illustrated with some sample data. It is shown in terms of estimated probability that it is more difficult for all three evaluation committees to be in complex agreement to approve or not approve a new drug or product than for fewer evaluation committees to grant approval.
The performance management makes sure that employees are aware of the goal and objective that they have to achieve. The organization has certain goals and objectives. And it is the best in interest of organization of company and employee that the objectives of both must be in sync. Thus setting up objectives in advance helps the company and organization to be in same page. Further performance management helps the employee to grow with the company. Further this is a process that eliminate the difference and conflicts between the two. Performance management also helps in identifying key resource for the organization who can be rewarded and groomed to be the stars of the future (Walton, R 1985). Further performance management also helps in setting up the reward structure as to what kind of performance must get what kind of award. These incentives the employee to see what is expected and what in return they are going to get.
Social media marketing, is a type of web promotion that executes different social networking systems keeping in mind the end goal to accomplish advertising correspondence and marking objectives. Social media marketing basically covers exercises including social sharing of substance, recordings, and pictures for promoting purposes, and additionally paid social networking publicizing. Social media is something which is created by people on the internet using the publishing technologies. Basically it is a big change in the consumers for absorbing and sharing information. It can be termed as a combination of technology & sociology where all the one directional conversation is converted to communication among various parties on the internet (Creamer, M 2011). Social media marketing is a kind of marketing which happens online which is totally location independent and hence it is a very important part of any business’ marketing strategy. In earlier days content for marketing was created by very few stakeholders but now due to social media everyone can produce their own content and put it online and the reason for it is because social media is highly accessible and the medium to use social media is again very is very convenient and easily understood by anyone.
The main objective of this research is to provide a solution to the rapid plastic deformation of flexible pavements due to moisture effect and heavy loading thus increasing the service life of flexible pavements. It is a common phenomena in Bangladesh that pavements undergo critical damage due to uncontrolled traffic flow, heavy loading and weather effect. Bangladesh has a subtropical monsoon climate characterized by wide seasonal variations in rainfall, high temperatures and humidity. Most parts of the country receives at least 2000mm of rainfall per year (weatheronline.co.uk)and the major parts of the country is comprised of sand and silty clay soil which tend to collapse when soaked and thus inducing damage to the sub-base layer of the pavements. The solution requires stabilization of sub-grade soil of flexible pavement using Portland Cement. The method considers three different percentage of cement content by weight (10%, 12% and 14%) with constant water-solid ratio(0.156) and finally recommends 10% cement content to be the optimum selection for stabilization.
This paper presents the finite element algorithm and calculation method of reinforced cylindrical shell with a hole under blast loading. Using the programmed algorithm and computer program written in Matlab environment, the authors solved a specific problem, from which examining the effects of structural and loading parameters to the dynamic response of the shell.
National security landscape has undergone an inclusive dynamics through the threat of cross-border migration process. This study aims to discuss the migration of the people of Myanmar, especially the Rohingya’s ethnic to Malaysia. Analysis of non-traditional’s threats interpreting internal security challenge to Malaysians are the main elements of the discussion in this study. Through a qualitative study and validation of accuracy of procedural information, this study argues that three non-traditional’s threats to human trafficking, local colony formation, and cross the border illegally as the underlying impact of migration among the Rohingya. In addition, the pressure of social responsibility on human factors also contributed constraints of national security policy based on the image of Malaysia. Thus, several proposals were discussed to contribute to policy-makers regarding the cross-border migration in Malaysia. The study found that the entry of illegal immigrants/ refugees Rohingya has created problems for the country, through the issue of cross-border illegally and the government had to bear a heavy responsibility to accept Rohingya refugees which they are long-term problems that pose the non-traditional’s threat to the country.
Eight red common bean varieties were evaluated in Borecha district of Sidama Zone using Randomized complete block design replicated in four villages. Phenotypic traits such as yield and yield component was measured and evaluated. Significant (P < 0.05) to highly significant (P < 0.01) were observed in days to 50% flowering, days to 95% physiological maturity, plant height, Biomass, grain yield, pod length, pod per plant, 100 seed weight, seed per pod and branch per plant. Genotypes yield stability across the villages was estimated by Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction Analysis (AMMI). The genotype named ‘Nasir’ is stable variety across the villages (environment). However, Dimtu and Hawassa dume was stable and out performed at village 1 & 3 even if high environment interaction was observed on village 4.
Organizational Citizenship Behaviors(OCB) are those behaviors for which employees are neither rewarded by their organizations, nor employees are encouraged to show such behaviors. OCB has potential to make countless contribution towards organizational effectiveness. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between jobsatisfaction, organizational commitment, OCB and turnover intentions. This study has been conducted in the banking sector and for this purpose responses from 140 public and private banks’ employees were obtained through simple random sampling. A questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument. SPSS17.0 software was used to analyze the data. Findings revealed that OCB is positively correlated with job satisfaction and organizational commitment, whereas it is negatively correlated with the turnover intentions.
