Using a sample of 37 finance companies listed under the finance segment of Bursa Malaysia, we examined the impact of the revision to Malaysian code on corporate governance on audit committee attributes and firm performance. Our result suggests that audit committee attributes significantly improved after the Code was revised. In addition, the coefficient for audit committee and risk committee interlock has a significant negative relationship with Tobin’s Q in the period before the revision to the Code and before the global financial crisis. The negative direction of the result is contrary to agency theory which suggests that separating directors on subcommittees will create information asymmetry between the directors and lead to poor coordination in the decisions of the committees thereby negatively affecting firm performance.
Ethiopia is believed to have the largest livestock population in Africa. This livestock sector has been contributing considerable portion to the economy of the country, and still promising to rally round the economic development of the country. It is eminent that livestock products and by-products in the form of meat, milk, honey, eggs, cheese, and butter supply provide mainly the needed animal protein that contributes to the improvement of the nutritional status of the people (CSA, 2009). Even though Ethiopia is the most populous country in cattle than any African country; the per capita milk consumption was 16 kg, which was lower than other countries in the region (Asfaw, 1997). This is partly due to the low genetic milk production potential of the indigenous zebu cattle. To increase milk production cross breeding of indigenous zebu with exotic breeds particularly with Holstein Friesian is widely practiced which resulted in a larger portion of the dairy cattle population especially in urban areas to be with a high level of exotic blood. However, this market oriented dairy production, a rapidly growing system in many African countries, is subjected to diseases of intensification including mastitis and reproductive disorders (Lemma et al., 2001).
Objectives: There have been no manuscripts to compare the bone ingrowth between CR type (Cruciate Retaining) and PS type (Posterior Stabilized) of cementless total knee arthroplasty(porous tantalum metal modular tibial component) and evaluate by imaging the postoperative computed tomography. The purpose of this study was to clarify and compare the bone ingrowth under the peg of porous tantalum modular tibial component between CR and PS. Methods: A consercutive series of 46 total knee arthroplasties (CR:23,PS:23) were reviewed prospectively. We was divided mediolaterally into six regions under the peg of tibial component and analyzed bone mineral content/total volume (BMC/TV)values using 3D osteomorphometry software with MDCT under lower the knee every 3 months(follow-up:21 months). Results: There were significantly higher BMC/TV values for PS typethan CR type at ROI.2.4.6 (Lateral, Lateral-Anterior, Lateral-posterior) at 3.18.21 months postoperatively. There were not a significant difference in the relative change in BMC/TV values in ROI.1.3.5 (Materal, Materal-Anterior, Materal-Posterior). Conclusions: The study indicated that PS type associated with the post-cam mechanism and midflextion instability was caused reactive cancellous stabilized and not occrred the influence of stress shieldings in lateral site under the peg of tibial component than CR typepost-operatively18 months later.
The study focused on the socio economic and profitability of major fisheries enterprises in Kano State, Nigeria. The socio-economic characteristics of the stake holders along the fisheries enterprises and profitability were described. It also identified and described the marketing channel of fresh and smoked fish in the study area. Gross margin analysis to assess the profitability of the business was determined. The constraints were also described and the factors that influence customer preferences in the study area identified. Primary data were collected from 30 fishermen, 30 processors and 20 consumers using questionnaire and analyzed statistically. The result of the study showed that male dominated fishing (52.3%), while female processing (47.5%). The gross margin analysis showed profitability values of N 74,350 for fishermen during raining period.
The study analyzed social networks and entrepreneurial orientation with particular reference to Network of African Student Entrepreneurs in Nigerian Universities. The objective was to explain the influence of social networks size on risk disposition among student entrepreneurs. extant literature based on the objective was reviewed. The theoretical underpinning is the sociological theory of entrepreneurship particularly the postulations of Frank Young 1971. The study adopted correlation descriptive method. ANOVA was used to analyze the data. A significant relationship was found to be existing between social networks size and risk disposition among student entrepreneurs. The implication of the result got is that if the students in Nigerian Universities fail to key into the revolution epitomized by the Network of African Student Entrepreneurs, then they run the risk of being bereft of entrepreneurial ideas.
Unfortunately, the widespread used one-to-many, many-to-one, one-to-one, and many-tomany database relationships lack precision and are very often leading to confusions that affect the quality of conceptual data modeling and database design. This paper advocates replacing them with the rigorous math notions of relations and (one-to-one) functions.
Plants have been one of the important sources of medicines since the beginning of human civilization. There is a growing demand for plant based medicines, health products, pharmaceuticals, food supplements and cosmetics. Murraya koenigii commonly called curry leaf tree is a multipurpose tree and is a source one of the medicinal products. Different parts of M. koenigii are used in folkloric medicine for the treatment of various diseases. It is proved to possess significant wound healing capacity and shows antioxidant activity with high degree of radical-scavenging properties. This article intends to provide an overview of the chemical constituents present in the crude leaf extracts of M. koenigii with special emphasis on their pharmacological actions. Qualitative phytochemical screening was carried out using the crude leaf extracts in three different solvents such as water, alcohol and chloroform. Phytochemical analysis of the extracts revealed the presence of glycosides, alkaloids, oils, sapponins and flavanoids.
In this paper we have developed two summation formulae which are unique with the help of contiguous relation.
Cold start and data sparsity greatly affect the recommendation quality of collaborative filtering. To solve these problems, social recommendation algorithms introduce the corresponding user trust information in social network, however, these algorithms typically utilize only adjacent trusted user information while ignoring the social network connectivity and the differences in the trust influence between indirect users, which leads to poor accuracy. For this deficiency, this paper proposes a social recommendation algorithm based on user influence strength. First of all, we get the user influence strength vector by iterative calculation on social network and then achieve a relatively complete user latent factor according to near-impact trusted user behavior. Depending on such a user influence vector, we integrate user-item rating matrix and the trust influence information. Experimental results show that it has a better prediction accuracy, compared to the state-of-art society recommendation algorithms.
